View Full Version : itchy scalp...

I have had an itchy scalp since my teens. Whenever I get warm or start to sweat, my scalp gets really really itchy. It's so bad that it interrupts work outs or whenever I jog I'll be looking like a fool cause I'll be running and stratching my head with both hands at the same time :(

For the last few years I've also started having problems with just fidgeting with my scalp whenever my hands are free. It's like an OCD. I'll run my fingernails along my scalp until I find a slightly raised root and I'll dig it up along with the hair.

Since maybe age 20 (I'm 25 now) my hair has been slightly receeding. It's still not real bad, but I need it to stop now. I am wondering if my bad habit is causing this? Does digging up roots cause the hair not to return? What about the itchy scalp problem? Could it be a micro organism? I tried using harmless shampoos, like ones for babies, but that didn't stop the itchiness. I don't know what else it could be, but I need this problem and the thinning hair to stop. Hopefully they are related and easy to prevent.

Any help would be great. Thanks.

I'm 24 and have noticed that my head has become alot itchier especially when hot or sweating similar to travyzm's problem (not as bad though). My hair has been falling out over the past two years. My father said that he had the same problem when he was my age. He is quite bald now. Not sure why my head is itchy at times all of a sudden. Does my itchy scalp have anything to do with my hair falling out? I never used to sweat as much either. Maybe something to do with my hormones im told. My hair is thicker on the tips and tapers off to being really thin towards the root when I look at the fallen ones. Should I use Rogaine? I only use a very mild shampoo. Does hair gel have anything to do with it maybe? Ive been on Propecia for a month now. Doesn't it mess with your hormones? What about this thing called DHT? My hair isn't that bad at the moment however I want it to stop falling out. I'm willing to try anything to make it stop.

Any advice would be much appreciated. Cheers.
