Good morning guys & gals,

I quit my 25 year tobacco habit last Sun. night - so this would be day #3. So far, I've done pretty good. I do still have cravings and all, but nothing that's not manageable. I've noticed that my cravings are their worst in the evening after I get home from work. I am wearing the 21 mg. patch and chewing the herbal (non tobabcco) stuff. So far so good. A couple of questions: I wonder how I will feel a week from today? How about a month from today? I hear that it gets easier and easier with time. Am I presently experiencing the worst of the cravings?

Thanks and hope that everyone's well,

Dave

CONGRATS DAVE - SO PROUD OF YOU :bouncing: :bouncing: :bouncing:

Yes - you're def. at the worst of it so you'll be amazed as time goes on that it gets easier and easier - just do not deviate from your program. If you're at 21 mg patches, then eventually you'll move to the others, etc.. but don't rush it - just stick to your plan and don't let your good days fool ya and never let your guard down.

I hit 3 months today and basically had forgotten about smoking and a girl came in my office today and mentioned it so I had to add up the days. LOL I'm at 90 days today and have no desire to go back to stinkin or wasting my health and money. It really does get easier and you forget about it. It's definitely a beatable habit and you'll be sooo happy you did. You won't have to be embarrassed ever again.

Keep it up Dave and keep us posted daily if ya can. We're here for ya :)

Hi Laurie,
I have tried so many times to quit.....I was told that tomorrow, well, actually today is my last day. I am going for surgery on Tuesday and we figure that will give me a few days free. I have failed at it all, but I keep trying. I don't want to do the patch again. My worst time is when I get stressed....any suggestions? I already go different routes when driving....changed the type of music.....any other ideas??? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated and congrats on the three months...^..^)))~~

Thanks tzty - I appreciate that :)

How long have you been smoking and how much? How long was your longest quit and what trigger made you go back? Were you quitting for you or what were your reasons for stopping?

I believe you can do it - you have to convince yourself first. I think your life is worth a little bit more than that. I know it's difficult at times but you can overcome it.

Please go bk and read thru the early threads - there is a ton of stuff out here and hopefully one thing will work for you if not all of them. I will try to help you any way I can and the others out here will as well. :)

Setting your quit date is huge thing - but make sure you have a plan in place first and do not let a relapse break you or make you feel like a failure because your not. You being here is a massive step - be proud that your here. :)

Much success if you've already quit - whatever you do.........DO NOT SMOKE :)

Hi Laurie,
I had quit for about 5 months....then one day it was time for my son to get his drivers license. He passed and borrowed the car. He had me a total wreck that day. I was so upset and shaking I bummed a cigarette and that was that. I had been in a group hypnosis meeting that time and when I walked out I went to a friends...threw my cigaretts and case at her and was fine. Went out dancing and had a few drinks that weekend and never missed it.
I had already tried the patches....and that lasted about a month. I actually had to take a drag off of a cigarette so that I could eat. I told the doctor I was doing good and all but had no appetite. He told me to take a drag of off a cig...only one.....and I did and I could eat after that.
I have quit on my own and joined a group on line for quiting and did that in for about 7 months. I was so proud...and one day....I started agian. No idea why.
Here of late when I try to quit then something happens and I go and get a pack. I want to stop this weekend for the surgery coming up......
I have been smoking about 1 1/2 to 2 packs a day for a long time now.....worse since I am not working.....and doing it for 36 years.....so it is time....I do it for me....not a bet or anyone else.....but keep falling back....as the doctor said...I will quit and it will be when I am ready....and I think I am.....I am tried of the tight chest and the coughing and junk in my chest.
will keep you posted....Tomorrow is the "Q" day.......Hugs, <^..^> tzty

Ah you are going to be fine tzty :) I'm gonna call you tt for short. LOL Sometimes I miss the keys and mess your name all up so... LOL (laughin out loud)

I think when you break down that you're not stopping to think about it first - that you are just giving in to a want of an ole pastime. When you quit this time - you are going to quit for good. There is no going back so say your goodbyes. It is pointless to do all of this work and turn back to it - look at yourself - you are right back to where you started and have to suffer all over again and it is NOT worth it.

You have been smoking quite a bit over the years and you don't know which one is going to be a cancer causing one so CONVINCE yourself that if you pick one puff up again - it will be the cancer one and you don't want to get it. Cancer is a very painful thing from what I've read.

I've missed it at times but I KNOW........I KNOW........ it is not worth it. Every single person that has relapsed EVER has regretted it and would give anything to go back and change it. So when I get paniked, bored, lonely, depressed, pissed, or anything and want to pick one up.........I remember my reasons for stopping, the relapse stories of regret, the cancer vicitims and the pain their famillies have endured, the vanity reasons, the stinkin alone isn't worth it. No one wants to hug or kiss an ashtray and even moreso than that - people that love and care about you want you to be around for them. Do not let them or yourself down. You just have to say NO - I'm not giving in to it. End of story and think about something else or come out here and write to us. It's that simple - do not make it harder than what it is and do not give them the power over you. You are runnin things now and that's the way it's going to be!

Stay strong - I know you can make this quit last forever :) Get rid of all of the lighters, ashtrays, cigs laying around, clean your house/car, and get ready!

Wow great advice!!!! I have been smoking for less than a year  but I quit for
15 years prior to this huge major screw up. It was the fibro pain  and I was working less hours.....blah blah blah....excuses excuses lead to nowhere fast. I LOVE your "puff" method. This is the puff that will be my downfall. Practicing those words. Easier said than done. BUT, Set a quit D for next Tuesday. Hugs, MerryM.
PS DID TZTY make it smoke-free ?.....she is such a caring person.
