I came upon this site while searching for info concerning my "condition." I was in awe over the many, many people who suffer the same ailment as me.
I am hoping ((an understatement)) that someone who reads this will give me insight as to what my problem may be and to whom would be the best specialist to visit. I am hoping to go "armed" with a wealth of info, where I wont be sent from specialist to specialist. I cannot afford to do this... no health insurance.
Until I read through the boards in this section, I never gave it thought as to my different symptoms could possibly be related. I just thought I was falling apart in general once I hit my 40s!! One of the possibilities (from reading another writer's post) is previous HEAD TRAUMA. It may be a shot in the dark, but I am hoping adding this info will click to someone out there!

Okay... Five years ago I fell and hit my chin ((rather hard)) on the edge of my diningroom table. From that accident, besides permanently damaging the nerve in my lower lip; always numb, I ended up needing a root canal on my front tooth due to trauma.
Months later I flew to San Diego from NY on a non stop flight. I will add at this time, I flew extensively. Each time with excruating pain in both ears; taking off and worst, landing. I would put cups over my ears, swallow, chew gum, nothing relieved the pain. This flight, my mission was to take care of my Navy daughter after the birth of her son. Unfortunatly her and her shipmates ended up taking care of me... What started as to be a normal morning, didn't. As stood out of bed, I had the sensation I was wearing 'someone's eyeglasses'. When I looked down, the floor appeared to be right under my nose. If I layed down, this sensation would dissappear. When I stood, it would happen again. Off and on all day I was vertical, then horizontial to get relief. I knew in a few days I would be flying back home and didn't want to chance not being able to get on my plane for any reason. I chose to go to a walk -in -clinic accross the highway from her military housing unit. While waiting to be seen, suddenly I had the WORST case of vertigo one could encounter. The only way to describe it is the room went upside down and began spinning. I had to lean to the left so I wouldn't fall off the earth. Then severe nausea began and I couldn't stop getting sick. I remember crying and yelling for the room to stop moving, and begging for my daughter to HELP ME!!! The next thing I know it was two days later and I am waking up in a hospital bed. I later on was enlightened to the fact I was brought into the hospital by a group of firemen, had a CatScan performed and was 'watched over' by my daughter and several of her shipmates alternately. I was discharged with a bag of perscription vilals and sent away with no clue as to what caused my dilema. I was given antibiotics for ear infection (I didn't have one) meds for dizzyness and nausea should this occur again.
I flew home several days later without another episode, but began noticing a deep, intense itch in my left ear. ... I went to an ENT and he said he didn't see a problem, but gave me ear drops just the same. I paid 350.00 to hear I am fine. Five years later... My symptoms are much worse.... I never did have the vertigo episode again ((Thank you God)), but I am experiencing severe pain at times, CONSTANT draining of some sticky stuff while I am asleep. When I wake up in the morning, the fluid that seeped out, causes the external part of my ears to itch terribly as well as internally. Throughout the day the itching persists and I cannot wear a dark shirt, for it will look like dandruff as it flakes out of my ears. At times the deep itch is so severe, I wake up with swollen, inflamed ears and the canal is closed to pin hole size.

I have been getting alot of sinus headaches and if I take a Tylenol Sinus, I notice the fluid doesn't ooze as much. One night I went shopping during a sinus attack, and lost partial vision of my left side...talk about scarey.

I feel I cannot take much more of this and I know I need to address this to a specialist soon. As I stated earlier, I do not have health insurance, and cannot afford to bounce from Dr. to Dr. to figure out what is wrong. That San Diego/Vertigo episode cost me 5,000.00 which I will be paying off till I die.
If anyone out there can please give me some insight pleeeeeease write me.

Thanks so much for listening and I apologize for making this soooo long! :dizzy: :dizzy:

I would go see a good allergist. You sound like you are allergic to something and it is causing fluid build up in your ear. The ear dandruff I have too-I use cetaphil lotion just on the inside not down inside. the allergist will proababley put some elidel inside your ear and it will help you. You need to see what you are allergic to by getting tested.

Hi. What an awful nightmare for you. I sympathise. Could be allergies though I think you have sinus, eustacian tube problems which, whatever the cause, is causing your problems. Do you have blocked ears a lot as well as sinus headaches? The stuff oozing out of your ears does not sound good. I would find a decent specialist though I know it is difficult for you as here in the uk we have the national health service so we can get free treatment.

Hi, thank you for responding to my post. I figured this was the best place to begin my journey into figuring out what is wrong with me... throw it out there and see what happens...and its working! You are so fortunate to have free healthcare! Good for you!
I agree with your Estuchian theory, it makes sense. I went to an ENT a year ago wanting to discuss this with him, but when he looked at me he discovered I had an ear infection and insisted on treating that before anything else. I was hoping he would listen to me long enough that I could at least get all my symptoms stated, but he was so stubborn "Let's take care of this first, and I wil see you in two weeks to discuss it further". While I appreciated the fact I was being treated, I wish he would of looked at my other ear and hopefully diagnosed me. Doctors don't understand when you don't have funds for follow up visits!!!
