My dad went into the hospital with pneumonia in his right lung. The doctor told us not to force coughing the stuff up, that the medicine will do the job. The doctor then ordered cough surpresent.
Talking with the nurses on staff, they were surprised that the doctor was wanting to surpress the coughing.
My dad seems to be better not having to cough up that pheilm up.
Is a cough suppose to be surpressed with pneumonia?
Thanks for your input.

????????
Cough supressant with pneumonia? The thing is, I was obviously not in the clinic when the doctor said what he said, but just to confirm, are you sure it was pneumonia that the doctor diagnosed?

Yea, pneumonia !
Today, when I talked with Dad, he said all the respiratory nurses were all talking about it last night. Dad was given a cough suppressant.
I grab a respiratory nurse today and ask about that, he said, "Your Dad has to cough that stuff up, but not too a point it is hacking and forcing it. The medicine will break it up slowly so he can easly cough it up".
So that what I know now, but tring to educate myself on this.
He is on a blood thinner too and they gave him a shot of V-K to help the thinning blood thicken up. Now, Dad's bowls are not moving and he feels terrable.
I have never seen my Daddy look so weak.
Thanks for responding

OHHHHHHHH, they're not giving him a cough suppressant then.....they're giving him an expectorant. The latter breaks up the mucous and helps to get it to come out.
Whew! I was scared for a second there. My impression is that the doctor did give you an expectorant, but by mistake, said cough suppressant.

No, I double checked with the Doctor yesterday and the term Cough sppressant was used (again). I have never heard the term expectorant. I will double check with the Doc. today and get the name of the medication.
Thanks again for your response, I will be writting soon again.
Love

The medicine is a decongestion medicine and inhaler. What is an exceptorant? The doctor didn't seem to know.
Again, Thanks. BTW, Dad seems to be doing better, thank God
