Hi! I don't know if this should be here or not. Sorry if I'm posting in the wrong spot. I've got long hair (about 3 feet long) and sometimes it's okay. But other times it gets WAY tangled. I mean, they get so bad I have to get help to get them out! I've actually had to lotion my hair to make it slippery enough to de-tangle. I've tried the de-tangler spray stuff. You can only imagine the looks I get when they find out it's for me, not a child. I've done everything I can think of to make them go away. Conditioner, cholestoral treating, protein packs, brushing bent over...I've also used different types of brushes. I brush after I wash my hair (with a wide-toothed comb) and always let it air dry. Blow-drying tends to make it frizzy on top of tangled, grrr. I've even tried Static Guard and dryer sheets, hoping that might help. Does anyone else have tangles this stubborn? How do you get rid of them? Thanks in advance :D

Keeping it straight might help. Try a flat iron on your hair to make it smooth. Try brushing your hair throughout the day so that little tangles don't become big ones. You might want to avoid any sticky styling products (hair spray) since they might make it worse.

Hi,
Have you tried the Detangler, by Paul Mitchell. It makes hair very silky, so it doesn't tangle. It says to leave it on for one minute, but you should leave it on for about 5 minutes. I bet you don't get any more tangles.

I was acctually going to suggest brushing throughout the day as well, kind of a "morning noon and night" routine... also.. brushing before as well as after you wash helps keep it from being so hard to untangle after a shower

one more thing, what condition is it in? do you deep condition it consistently or are end ends getting a bit dry? I find that the healthier my hair is the less it tangles.. all of the little breaks and jags in the individual hairs are what cause them to cling together to make a tangle... so maybe try trimming a few inches off and setting up a program of regularly deep conditioning the last foot or so?

I had the same problem. Till I started using Pantene Daily Moisture renewal conditioner. I apply it in the shower and bring in a wide toothed comb and comb the conditioner through my hair. I also use Pantene light spray conditioner. I don't think Pantene isn't all that bad as some say it is. Its high silicone content helps to detangle and that is why I love it.

Wow! Thanks for all the responses. Let's see, I don't use any kind of styling products, dyes, perms/chemical stuff, blow dryers or anything. My mom keeps calling me a hippie. LOL. I usually only get my hair cut about 2-3 times a year. The hair itself is usually in pretty good condition. Ugh, now that you mention it, there are some split ends. I loved the response about Pantene. :D I used it up until a few years back when they re-vamped the line and did away with the 2-in-1 things for awhile. May have to go back to them :D Thanks again guys!

Try brushing your hair out so that its smooth BEFORE you get into the shower. After shampooing, use a deep conditioner (like Pantene's deep conditioning treatment) and keep it on for longer than the recommended 3 minutes. I usually shampoo right when i get in the shower, put on the conditioner, and then do the rest of my showering - shaving, soaping, etc.. after about 10 minutes (or for me like 15!) take off the conditioner. My hair used to be SUPER tangly until i started doing this. Good luck!

I think the conditioners that work well for detangling are Tresseme Marine Botanical and Mango Sealant (can buy at Sallys) or Aussie Slip. It always helps when I use a wide tooth comb in the shower and comb the conditioner through. :)

My roommate has wildly curly hair down to her waist, and she uses various detangers. She doesn't think any one is better than the others, but she has to use one.

Oh, and keep it trimmed. Last Saturday, my (short) hair got so tangled, I broke my brush trying to untangle it. I decided it was past time for a trim.

Hi!

I, too, suffer from horrible tangles. My hair is very fine, though, so I have to be careful of what products I use, so that they don't weigh my hair down.

I finally asked my hairdresser what she thought would be good for my hair type and she suggested Rusk's "Calm Detangler". I immediately went to Trade Secret's which sells Rusk products and purchased the item.

I must say I'm impressed with it. You spray it on after you get out of the shower and, to my surprise, it definitely made combing my hair much easier. Always use a wide-toothed comb. I was afraid that it would weigh my hair down but it really doesn't. I think it cost $8-9 for the small one but you don't have to use alot so it will last me awhile. I'm so glad I took my hairdresser's advice and gave it a chance.

Good luck with whatever you decide. I know how frustrating and damaging tangles can be. Linda

I too used to get really bad tangles in my hair. I always called them rat's nests because that is what they looked like.

I have since cut my hair and am now growing it back (it is down to about my bra strap) and have had not problems with it. If your hair is dry or split ended it will cause tangles much more easily. I also found have a few layers cut into my hair helped.

Now I get my hair cut every few months (though I should do it more often) and just take really good care of it. I condition it with VO5 Hot Oil every week and occasionally treat it with a hair mask. Not only do they smell nice but they leave your hair really silky.

Oh, and I always found that packet hair colours were really good on my hair. You can get the semi-permanent (lasts maybe 12-16 weeks) and it leaves your hair silky and smooth without drying it out. Like a conditioning treatment that lasts a bit longer.

I go through the same thing and the tangles drive me nuts. I use Pantene conditioner & used to use tail & mane which was okay but have the best results with citre shine for shine & gloss, which is the best thing I've found, it shines, helps with tangling, helps split ends, and it does not take much-a few dabs, it's thick...Spray detanglers don't work. At night make one brade or ponytail to the side before I go to sleep.
