Linz, Coconut oil is GREAT for the hair. It makes a wonderful hair conditioner, and aids in preventing damage to the hair.

Some suggestions for use of coconut oil:

1. Massage coconut oil onto scalp/hair, leave in for 1/2 hour, then rinse with warm water (repeat up to 3 times a week)

2. For split ends, apply Coconut oil and lime juice

Choose a good source of premium, virgin coconut oil (you want to choose an oil with the least amount of processing so that you get the most nutrients possible..vitamin E..antioxidants etc.)

Take care.

Question about coconut oil: I bought some and it actually looks like shortening or white butter instead of "oil". Is it suppose to look like this? I can heat it up and it melts, but in it's "natural state", it is hard. Do you apply it to your hair in the oil state or as Crisco? :-)

Well...coconut oil is the best for hair in my opinion. Most Indians use it and have healthy hair.
Coconut oil looks like that when it solidifies. In cold countries, it tends to solidify. Don't worry, melt it and apply. Actually it is supposed to be in liquid form.

Hi,
Actually, I have heard some people mentioning how helpful coconut oil is for hair, but I have no clue where to purchase it. Is it available in grocery store?? Is their a name brand that I should look for?? My hair is soo dry, and I really want to try it but don't know where to get it... Can you give me a name for it or maybe where I can purchase it? Thanks
Anita

How does this work? Do you mix the two ingredients together, then apply it & let it sit for 1/2 hour?

This is interesing, I'm curious to try it out :) Great thread:)

I don't know where you'd get coconut oil...I stay in India and it is abundantly available here. You may find it anywhere, too.
You may find it in one of the shops in your country where they sell imported goods...Parachute coconut oil is a good brand and most widely used.

Hi there, coconut oil ( actually it comes solidified, yet still soft) can be purchased at any of your local beauty supply places. Like a place that caters and sells to the beauty and hair professionals. You can purchase there as well, but not attain the discount that professionals get. I have waist length hair that is fine and becoming a bit thinner. I have used the coco oil for a few months and the results are amazing. It does not weigh your hair down even if you leave it in .

I actually have some coconut oil but it is refined. Does that still work good on the hair?
