What's your diet like? Regular exercise and a proper diet, with the calorie intake amounting to less than your total daily expenditure, will help reduce total body fat.

You can't "spot reduce" your stomach area -- when you burn fat (ie. through aerobic or resistance exercise), the fat is lost from all over your body. You have zero control over which fats get to be released from the fat cells for muscle energy use.

As you've discovered, if you have a layer of fat around your stomach, no amount of crunches are going to get that visible definition you seek. While ab exercises will mostly help build/tone the muscles under the fat, aerobic exercise is the key to burning lots of calories and therefore reducing overall body fat, including abdominal fat.

Also, there may be a genetic component for "stubborn" fat cells, and this will affect what you can achieve.
