I have been using a MiniMed Paradigm since July 03' with great results. I currently use the Silloette<sp> infusion sets in my stomach. I will be cruising to the Carribean in a week, and was wondering if anyone has any experiance with infusing anywhere else(particularly thieghs)? I used to give my insulin in my theighs, but have went with stomach since I got on the pump. Would just like to conceal the insusion set if possible. Thanks

Just like you can give a shot virtually anywhere, you can infuse just about anywhere. There are some things to keep in mind. Where to infuse depends on your tubing length as making your tubing too taut can cause it to dislodge. You also have to look at how much you move the area. Putting it on your thigh can cause it to dislodge as you are moving it more. That being said, I used my thighs, abdomen, and hips for infusion. The more things rub on the area, the better the chance for pump bumps. The closer to the abdomen you go the better and faster the absorption. Also, be sure to take insulin and syringes JIC. Nothing is worse than depending on your pump and something happening while you don't have backup supplies.

Good luck and have fun

An excellent area for infusing, that would be covered by both pants and a bathing suit, is the back of the hips/upper butt area. I frequently use this area and get good absorption. I use the shorter tubing, and there's still plenty of room to maneuver the tubing to clip the pump onto the waistband of your pants (or put in pants pocket).
