Hi, is there any reason heartrate goes up a bit when bp is lower? The meds are keeping the bp down but after a workout it seems like it is taking longer for my heartrate to go down.
Thanks

I'm no doctor, but let me hazard a guess here.

Previously, when your BP was a little elevated, your heart rate was perhaps X bpm. Then you took medications which brought your BP down. This decrease could be more than is required to maintain good cardiovascular health, ie. you could be slightly over-medicated and it has brought down your BP to a level where some parts of your body may not be receiving enough oxygen and blood. The effects of this could probably be dizzyness, some "faintish spells", tiredness/lethargy, sleepiness, etc. So, to handle this, the heart will attempt to pump more blood and oxygen to those areas needing them that are currently a bit short on them, and hence your heart rate goes up.

Does this make sense? :D I base this on some research which says that one of the side effects of hypotension is an increased heart rate.

Hey, I have a high heart rate, and a low blood pressure, but I dont take any medications...so there is some sort of connection...

It is an attempt by your body to keep enough oxygen to all your organ systems. If your medication is dropping your BP too low then you may need to see if the doc can lower your dose. HeatherW.
