i can see that germ/dust contamination is a common type of ocd, for me i have something different.. its could be some kind of superstitions, i dont know..

heres what i had to go through.. i bought some new clothes from this shopping mall, then while carrying the new clothes in a plastic bag, i went to another shopping mall, a place that i felt that its 'contaminated' because i disliked the place, after that i felt very bad for being stupid enough to have stepped into a contaminated place, and had this strong urge to throw it all away.. but i didnt, i just had to wash it a number of times in order to rid of contaminations.. all these happen not because i think its dirtied with germs or dust, its due to the fact that i believed it'd be just 'not right' because i stepped into a place i disliked while carrying the plastic bag with the new clothes, i was just afraid that i'd get annoyed with far too many stupid thoughts and doubts whenever i see the new clothes.. i didnt want it to affect my mood and/or cause me any stress..

this is very frustrating!! can somebody tell me what is wrong?? what kind of contamination is this?? i dont even know..

thanks ahead of time

I am not sure what kind of contamination this is (if it is any at all) but really think about it...what about that place don’t you like specifically? and if you don’t like it why did you go there? there has to be something, some reason this is plaguing your mind.

well it didnt occur in my mind at that time, only after i stepped in then the thought of contamination appeared in my mind and since then it has been so hard to get rid of the thought, i know it makes no sense but i just cant seem to make the thought go away, and with the thought staying here, i am feeling realli miserable...

stars,
Sometimes I feel like that too. I have obsession tendencies with germs, but sometimes my hands feel "dirty" because I touched something I don't like or I've accidently watched something on TV I didn't want too. Pretty wierd, but I just wash my hands and it goes away untill the next time.
Your's sounds pretty severe, but I don't have much advice I could give, since mine isn't "cured". However, maybe if you talk to someone about how you feel it might make you feel better.
Good luck,
Len

Actually your type of "contamination" is very common among ocd'ers. It is very "magical" in nature.

I know some people probably don't like me to bring this up, but I got over these types of contamination fears through my faith in God. When I come across something like this, I just say to myself "God is much more powerful than this (thing, person, or whatever) and I place this whole matter in God's Hands, and then I just believe in Him to take over.

I know that your next thought will be "I have to get rid of this object, etc., etc. or it will drive me crazy". Just know and believe that, yes, you may agonize over this for a while BUT IT DOES GO AWAY EVENTUALLY. Give it a try - the obsesson does go away. It may take days or even weeks, but by not doing your ritual of getting rid of the object, you become stronger.

The more you "give in" and perform your ritual (such as getting rid of the object) you make this fear more powerful and stronger and it sticks with you even more.

thanks a lot guys.. it just seem really so difficult to bear with the anxiety of keeping the object (like wearing the clothes i bought or using 'contaminated' money to buy new clothes) that i believe to be 'magically contaminated', i have this fear that if i dont perform the compulsion, it will cause me bad and unlucky days and will eventually start to ruin my life.. although i know that if i keep giving in to ocd it will turn out worse, but by not giving in i feel really stressed, so both way isnt right for me.. but i'll try my best to stop all these.

cherryfroggie7, i hope you can cure yours too.

Thanks, shining.
It's wierd with the whole luck thing and how doing one thing can make you feel so much better untill you need to do it again. For instance, I have a glass prisim in my room. Whenever I enter my room or before I leave it, I need to count and touch the rainbows it makes. The first time I count them, if I have 7 rainbows, my day absolutley has to be good. If I have 6 rainbows, my day has to be bad (when these things don't happen, it can get very stressful).
I hope you have lots o' luck with your contamination thing. It does help a little to talk to someone, doesn't it?

yeah it does help.. u know, actually what i mentioned isnt the worse of my ocd.. there is a similar problem, heres how i should describe it:

if, lets say, the name of the person i dislike starts with L, then the alphabet 'L' becomes contaminated, i cant buy anything that starts with L, that includes brands of clothes, drinks, etc.. cant even say certain words starting with that alphabet.. and the list goes on and on.. and sometimes even the alphabets after the first alphabet becomes 'contaminated' too.. this is by far the most serious symptoms of my ocd.. silly idea isnt it?

still thinking of a way to cure it

I am not sure about your faith. But do you really feel that a person or an object has more power over your life than God does? I say, just put the matter in God's Hands and believe in His protection over you. I truly, believe, without a doubt, that this particular obsession can go away with your faith in God.

although i know that if i keep giving in to ocd it will turn out worse

You got it! And, you also make it stronger and easier to fall prey to it again.

but by not giving in i feel really stressed, so both way isnt right for me.. but i'll try my best to stop all these.

You definitely will feel stressed, but understand that even though your stress may last a few days, weeks, or even months, it does diminish over time, and at the same time you are not allowing yourself to easily fall prey to it again.

thanks.. just a question though,

i really need to get this off my chest.. i was trying to play a game, i had to think of a nick to use, but many alphabets were forbidden due to contamination.. then i thought of the way the person i disliked put name into nick through some short form ways, then i thought of doing that with my nick too, and guess what.. that thought caused me to think that my name is contaminated and that i must change it, but of course i resisted that idea.. i just dont want to be the same.. i dont want to copy.

i know this sure sound like a silly idea to you, but i just want to know, what would you do if you were in my shoes?

Shiningstars: Sorry, I can't help you, unless I understand what a "nick" is, and your saying that "many alphabets were forbidden".

nick refers to nickname/username.. and i couldnt use certain alphabets due to contamination..

Shiningstars: I am not sure if you believe in God, but again, I would suggest just know and believe in your heart that God also has the power to "decontaminate" anything and that he will protect any nickname you think of.

Again, as far as the "magical ocd stuff", I believe faith in God really is the main answer and not going back or redoing any rituals.
