View Full Version : Getting Better Question

Hi,

So I am miles better than I was, what I tend to find is that I feel amost normal for the vast majority of the day. BUT I find that I still in spells feel weird, for me it tends to be bang all of a sudden I feel like the floor tilted and it turns mt stomach but passes as it starts. Or I will get a sudden wave of the sensation that I will be dizzy or I sense movement when there is none, these are like quick sensations but all the same horrible.

I think for me the whole dizzy thing and off balance has like almost gone and what remains is this feeling of being lightheaded - sorta like having low blood sugar I guess. Some days its very persistent and others days not there.

When I get very tired I can feel a little off balance or not right but otherwise I am doing great.

I am back at work now and basiaclly run ragged by my kids, I amaze myself as to how my household continued to operate last year when I basically stayed in bed or sitting down 24/7 as I was so dizzy, bouncy, off balance, weird, horrible and down right sick of feeling horrendous.

So for all of you...............thinking.............. ..this will never end...........it does.....................be patient...............you WILL get there.

Any body else felt this way on their road to recovery?

Hi Ilia,

Fantastic to hear you're doing so well. I hope I am on the road to recovery. Like you I don't feel monstrously dizzy a lot of the time - more a little off/ either light of head or heavy of head. My symptoms come on for longer than a few moments when they do get bad - the worst of my symptoms - getting more vertiginous, much more lightheaded, mostly come on with visual stimulus - shops, being out and about etc, this can continue for a few hours. I also get worse around my period, like clockwork. I also get worse when I'm tired. It really does sound like your condition is definitely on the way out. I don't know if this helps - remember I've never had BPPV, only lab, so maybe your sudden shifts and sudden movement sensations, are less to do with lab now and are the residual effects of BPPV, maybe there's a pesky crystal or 2 that haven't dissolved yet. It's a nice thought as it means that if the pesky crystals do dissolve you'll soon be shot of this completely.

I've just started another thread regarding the other symptoms I get, I would really appreciate your thoughts on that. I know you had a really bad time with this and it'd be really helpful to know if you experienced any of the other symptoms I experience.

So glad you're doing well, Ilia,

best,

hbep.

Hi!

After going to Chicago and getting tested I have been doing pretty well. I am having alot of "normal" moments. I went to Cabela's today and that was hard at times. Especially helping my husband look at coats. Going thru racks of clothing still really bothers me. But I can sit and just relax and can basically recover pretty quick and feel pretty normal thru part of the shopping. After we went to Cabela's we went to a HUGE furniture store and that really didn't bother me near as much. I had a pretty good day and for the most part am feeling so good that I am enjoying life again and doing things.

The PT (founder of the Balance Center of America) that took care of me in Chicago told me that as I get better, even when I am feeling back to normal there will be normal when the sensation will hit. But it will soon pass and just realize it is normal for that to happen. Sounds like that is what happens to you! But for sure, we are on our way out of this thing!!! Yippeeeeee!!!

I was curious, did they discover any permanent damage in your inner ear when you were tested in London? They found that I have no permanent damage. When I asked the PT about that, he said once I recover I don't have any more chance of this reoccuring than the next guy! I was diagnosed with BPPV.

Also, are you taking any medications? The PT also prescribed Klonopin, just a very small dosage at night. He said it will help me feel better when I am out shopping and such. I am going all the way with what they tell me cause they really understand inner ear disorders and imbalance.

Anyway, SO happy that it is getting better for you!!!

Blessings!

Vicki

Vicki, Glad to hear you're feeling so well. I'm going for a second opinion in a few weeks and keep thinking they'll try some meds at some point for me. I'm pretty drug-sensitive, but really do wish there were a "magic pill" at this point to help. How are you handling the Klonopin? I've heard a lot of mixed reviews. Penny

Hi, Penny!

I can't really tell what the Klonopin is doing at this point. I was already beginning to notice improvement, tho' slow before I began it. I certainly sleep well on it, but hope that doesn't become a dependency. I am only taking half a pill at night, which is .25mg. I read that you can take a whole lot more than that, like I think around 20 mg in some cases so what I am taking is low. The orthopedic doctor wanted to put me on .5 mg and maybe Ritalin with it??? But the PT didn't think that was necessary, since I have already improved quite a bit. So, anyway, have only been on it for about 1 1/2 weeks so we will see!!
How are you doing?

Vicki, Although the past few weeks haven't been horrible, I've been through several bouts of cold and flu this winter
