View Full Version : Fructose and Wheat

In an effort to ease my bloating and stomach spasms I reduced all wheat products as much as possible. The gas, bloating, and spasms subsided and I thought I found my problem. I have been doing fine since I reduced the wheat consumption. Recently my symptoms began to re-appear and I thought my wheat theory was wrong. I found that while trying to expand the wheat and gluten free products I was also re-introducing fructose.
Some time ago I found that fructose was another reason for my discomfort and I eliminated everything that contained it. It is amazing how many products contain fructose, probably because it is cheaper and easier to incorporate that sugar.
If you are having similar problems I suggest you try to eliminate fructose and wheat and see if you feel any better. Also, take the time to read the labels, the ingredients may surprise you.

Harry,
No, I don’t have Celiac. I think as I aged, now 60, I have developed digestive problems. Through an elimination diet I found that white bread was one of the items that was causing me problems. I stopped using all white foods and got some relief. I also was having a problem losing weight and I read that eating any type of bread, wheat or other, slows down the digestive process. I reduced my wheat consumption as much as I could and I began to lose weight. I also found that much of the gas, bloating and stomach spasms subsided. I also have a thyroid condition and I take a beta blocker for my heart. Modifying my diet has resulted in losing 25 pounds since Christmas.
BTW, there are a lot of wheat free products available, but check the ingredients on the label. Watch out for the fructose.
