For the lat few years I have occasionally had the feeling like my food and drink gets 'blocked' in my esophagus. Its so blocked up sometimes that I actually panic. I have been so blocked that I have had to vomit up the food because there was NO way it was going down. I also have frequent regurgitation and constant heartburn and acid reflux. I notice when this happens that I get a feeling of crampiness in my chest and pain that radiates up into my jaw. Like really bad indigestion. Last year after my second c-section I was still in the hospital and was getting clindamycin pills for infection and even thoe would get stuck and cause severe pain when they were dissolving (which I bet isn't too good for the esophagus). No amount of water could wash it down neither. I told the nurse that I had blocked up but she brushed it off and said that I had eaten my supper too fast! I ended up vomiting what remained of the pills.
I thought at first it was because I was eating fast or something but it has progresively gotten worse. I know I have to get in and see a doctor soon. I am just wondering - in the meantime until my appointment - if anyone might know what this is??
I have looked up the symptoms and they sound like esophageal stricture. What would cause that?
I have this also. I have been to a specialist and they put me on Nexium. I have been checked with the "camera down the throat" thing and it showed nothing. This started happening after I hade my baby. Doc says I have a very sensitive esophagus.
I stay away from dry chicken and other dry meats. I eat slowly and take small bites. It is a pain to deal with. 'Hope you find what works for you. :)

I had a stricture several years ago from acid reflux. I couldn't swallow most solid foods, especially dry meats and bread. My esophagus was dilated and then I was fine. You should have an Endoscopy and/or barium swallow to see what's going on. If you need a dilation, it's done during the Endoscopy.
Good luck.

[I had exactly the same thing for quite a while - had my gb out 17 YEARS ago and about 6 years ago started with the difficulty swallowing just as you describe. Diagnosed with GERD, put on Prevacid 15 mg and the swallowing problem has been gone - thank goodness. Good luck to you.
