I have a friend who is very ill. The ER at first diag. her with extremely low calcium levels and gave her IV Calcium....but after they found out she did not have insurance, they told her she was "fine", "can't find anything wrong with you", and told her "don't come back".

What I know of her symptoms are:

Numbness around mouth, hands, feet.

Pain in rib cage, internal organs, legs, feet.

Stiffness in hands, feet.

rash on face at first, then all over her body after taking Calcium supplements.

Constipation -- a chronic problem.

Inablitity to sleep, seems due to pain & not being able to get comfortable.

Hair stiff and dry; no oil present after not having washed it for a full week!

That's all I can remember right now. Thanks for your assistance. I know she will appreciate it.

One of the things I found that her symptoms might suggest is a magnesium deficiency.

(The last I heard from this friend is that she could barely walk to the bathroom).

Anyone?

I got my calcium levels up without taking calcium supplements. I did it with powdered barleygrass. It contains calcium and strengthens the body's alkalinity. I have my doubts that I could mention a brand name on a forum, so you could plug the word barleygrass into a search engine....

I also have a very sick friend (she was bedridden when we met), and I introduced it to her and it really helped her. Between taking this, and a vitamin protocol and taking glandulars for the adrenals and thyroid, she is making progress and is able to drive occasionally and take care of herself always, and sit up for several hours a day and do some walking now.

I would add that the way my naturopathic doctor tests my calcium levels is by putting a blood pressure cuff around the fattest part of my lower leg, and pumping it up. If she reaches 200 without it cramping, then I am not deficient. My first reading was 176. Mom's was 160, and my very sick friend's reading was 120.

The idea is that it takes calcium to resist the pressure.

Trust me, you will know it if it cramps.

Do you think there might be any chance she has become intensely dehydrated? Some of the things you say seem to suggest this. Perhaps a good regimen to follow for lack of a doctor's recommendation would be to try some of the other suggestions given, plus drinking at least half of her body weight in oz. of water per day (if she weighs 100 lbs., she would drink 50 oz. of water per day, perhaps more if already dehydrated), and taking a supplement of various vitamins and minerals, coupled with a 1/2 tsp. of sea salt per day to let water accomplish it's goals. Search using the words, "watercure", and you will encounter what I have been writing about. It may have no merit, haven't been able to test it out myself. But in her case, the water is cheap and safe to try, when she doesn't have any help from doctors. Hope something will help soon. (If she happens to use alcohol or drink a lot of caffeine, or has recently had a stomach flu, this might lead us even more to the conclusion she is dehydrated. It may not be the ENTIRE problem, but more water might help the constipation and more!) She has a good friend to care so much as to look for help for her! Hope your efforts will pay off! :) ~ Tracy
