I've been taking oxycontin (40mg twice a day) for five days now. I have no appetite and feel sick to my stomach a lot of the time. Will this pass as I adjust to the medicine?

Is this what was rx'd to you? Have you spoke to your doctor about your symptoms?

Yes - this has been prescribed. Actually, today has been somewhat better.

If it upsets your stomach, take it on a full stomach or with milk.

My mother was on oxycontin for three years. Once she withdrew, she was never the same. This drug has serious permanent side effects. She has been disabled from it for four years. Even her hair hurts and her bowel system has no motility (nerve damage). I would reconsider taking this drug.

My husband had been taking it for 8 months and is trying to get off it but the withdrawals are bad. His body will twitch and shake and I have to pay close attention to what he is taking to help with that. He feels sick all the time.

This appears to be a dangerous drug. Please check with his doctor to see if anything can be done about the withdrawals and I hope he does not have to go through what my mother has endured.

I would reconsider taking this drug also. My mom is on it right now because she just had back surgery 2 months ago. She is addicted to it and she can't go with out taking it. My moms friend up from my house just had back surgery and is taking this and he is also addicted to it. It is a very serious drug and I would think twice about taking it.

I have only heard bad things about this drug. I friend from work's husband died 1 week after beginning this drug. The official coroner's report stated it was a drug interaction from Ambien. Please be careful.

Oxcotin is a powerful painkiller. This drug is a opiate yea same as heroin. Do a little research Heroin highly addictive drug same as oxycotin.

Oxycontin is a pain killer and should be used as such. I've been using it for years and never had any problems with it. Every drug affects people differently and you need to be vigilant in making sure that the drug is the right choice for you. But, if the drug is prescribed by a professional, to treat a real problem, they are incredibly effective at treating chronic pain and can restore function for people who have lost it. Hope that helps.
