View Full Version : Anyone else diagnosed with no permanent damage?

Hi, All!

I have been wondering since my visit to Chicago a few weeks ago whether or not anyone else has found out that they do not have any permanent damage in their inner ear. I was very happy to hear that because of a virus that I had about 9 1/2 years ago and I just figured all this time that I had damage from that time. I asked the head guy at the balance center what it meant about having no permanent damage and he said that once this is gone I do not have any more chance of getting this back then the next guy.

This is what the doctor said about me:

With the ENG I had right peripheral vestibular nerve dysfunction. This implies an abnormality in the right inner ear or the balance mechanism of the right inner ear. I have a tendency to overshoot when moving head from side to side, particularly with head left, eyes right. The diagnosis is a right peripheral vestibulopathy, partially compensated. They suspect with adequate care and a sincere effort at the exercises and the use of Klonopin I will be able to resolve with good functional results.

Anyone have any thoughts or understand this better than I do? Even tho' I have found out alot about inner ear stuff it still is such a mystery.

I am getting steadily better. Right now my biggest struggle is with some head fullness. My eyes feel unsteady and I have a buzzing in my head from time to time. The overall balance when I am walking around is pretty normal now. Can go out and about and do fairly well. If I am in a "busy" environment will start out good and start to feel the pressure and struggle in my brain after awhile, but I recover fast when I leave the environment. Night time gets better and better with less and less rocking. I have to thank the Lord for where I am now compared to where I have been. Tons and miles better, but I am looking forward to the day when I am normal all the time.

One of the things the PT mentioned to me is that I can expect to feel moments of dizzyness or weird sensations just out of the blue when I am well again from time to time, but they will come and go.

Well, would love some feedback on my report and wonder if anyone else has found out about permanent damage or not in their inner ear.

Thanks!

Vicki

Hi Vicki, glad your doing so good.Praise God. They have told me over and over, since the ENG--that this would go away and I would be just fine. I am sincerely waiting for that to happen!!!! I got to lay down last night and Praise God--there was no spinning....I go back Thurs for my recheck, so am taking things slowly till then. The motion feelings are still here and that awful head pressure. At the center, did they have any clue as to WHY we rock and sway? My ENT said he guessed it was just the way my brain was handling the vertigo. BUT, his usual answer for my questions is--"hmmmm"....Please keep me in your prayers and know you are in mine. Belle
