Please Help!! When my son was 2 months old he was diagnosed with RSV and hospitalized for 3 days. We were told to use a nuebulizer filled with Xopenex. Now, at 4 months, he has been diagnosed with reacitve airway disease. We are using the nebulizer agian, this time filled with Albuterol. He is weezy and seems to be congested all the time. Has anyone ever heard of this before? Isn't Albuterol used to treat asthma? Does this diagnoses mean that he is more prone to contracting asthma? What can we do at home to stop the weezing and congestion? He is still VERY happy and extremely palyful in the 75th percentile in everything. Does anyone have any advice?

my husband & i practically got chills reading your story. at 10weeks my son was admitted to the hospital for 3 days with rsv bronchiolitis. treated with o2, prelone, nebulizer and originally cough suppressent/decongestant and another doc discontinued this use. through it all he still tried to smile, but you could tell he exhibited malaise to the fullest. he lost interest in eating, ran a fever. after the few days he seemed to recover well. the about 4 months old he started to get this cough and congestion, not sleeping day or night, sweating, and then fever followed, i wasn't sure if it was start of teething, since a nephew broke teeth at 4 months, well, the phlegm became thick and yellow/tan, not teeth, after about a week it changed to only cough, congestion, occasional fever up to 100.8 with clear phlegm which again i attributed it to possible allergy/teeth. no teeth. he recovered after about 2-3 weeks on his own. then again around 7 and 1/2 months, just this past 2 weeks he began the whole cycle again. not sleeping well through the night, waking up with coughing fits for minutes on end, exhaustion throughout the day, fever up to 100.8, phlegm thick yellow/tannish, sweating like crazy when he would sleep, grant it it is HOT out, but we have air. so i tried just a saline in the nebulizer, this helped a little but not a great deal, it tried rondex, which only seemed to dry the secreations and make them more difficult for him to get out, just a dry cough instead of a moist productive cough, through it all, tylenol/motrin. then he began to have what looked like mosquito bites, worried of course it was something to do with what we thought were bug bites. then within 2 days woke up with areas bigger than a dime that still looked like bites, benedryl helped more than anything with the cough, congestion, secreations, and welt bite looking areas. finally went to doctor and was diagnosed with reactive airway disease, he was currently put on zyrtec, to see if it helps clear him up. if not then going to try and treat for sinus infection. i really don't want to see him on an antibiotic if it is only going to mask the problem, but if it helps him breath easier, i just don't sleep well, listening to his snoring respirations.
anyone have any suggestions, i have read through may websites, found a couple that recommend tonsillectomy. i just don't want to see him go through this every few months. and summer is about to end which means another rsv season.
