I have read scores of threads on this board of people with similar sounding ailment to what I have - had my gb out 17 years ago and almost immediately started in with this horrendous pain awakening me between 5-6 AM, pain right around the incision from the gb (had my surgery the 'old' open way before the current laparoscopic). This pain is so intense it takes my breath away, cannot speak while in the throes of the pain and then within 15-20 minutes it just completely stops like somebody turning off a switch. Goes from intense, unbearable pain to stop! Over the years I have had all the tests you could imagine, procedures, specialists, etc and no answer. Was told it was 'gas' pain caused from the body digesting food in a different manner now that I don't have a gallbladder. Went on Prevacid for GERD about 6 years ago and that helped a lot at first - I could go 8-9 months between attacks. But the last year the pains have recurred on a rather constant basis. I have also lost 60# this year intentionally through weight watchers and have noticed that the pains have accentuated as I have lost the weight.
Tried the magnesium that I have read so much about here and it caused 5-6 BM's per day and discomfort in that area so I stopped. Now I have read the advice from Harry who really goes all out to help people, and he talked about chelated magnesium not causing the laxative affect. I am about at my wits end as to what to do to prevent these attacks. ONLY happen in the early morning; once the pain is gone, I feel fine - maybe weak for about an hour but then fine and the rest of the day I am fine.
I eat totally bland diet because of these problems - have suffered since I was 14 with problems - suffered 25 years and at 39 years old had the gb out. Now I am 55 and the last 17 years I have suffered with this early morning gas pain.
Harry - if you read this - do you think chelated magnesium would be a better alternative for me? I don't want the laxative affect and have found that fiber is NOT my friend and too much fiber in foods and such cause big problems, too. I feel a mess - here I am happy to have lost the 60# and now I am suffering more in the GI arena.
Any advice. Thanks so much; I find this board so helpful.
