Hi all.
I had a fasting glucose test done today and the metre score was 5.6. (think that works out as 101) I am a bit worried as all the other times l have had a fasting test the score has always been in the 4.0-4.6ish range(72-80). I had been concerned before as the fasting numbers had seemed a little low at times. So this seems quite a high reading for myself compared to previous ones.
Can you tell me if this does seem high, especially after always having quite low readings? I know its not a diabetes level but with all the new classifications about glucose numbers l am now even more confused.
Thank you for your help.

Our bodies react to so many different factors. Stress or illness can also contribute to a higher glucose level. One blood sugar is like a snapshot and doesnt tell you much of anything. It could be a monitor malfunction also.

I would try to take a fasting number every morning for the next few days. If they all fall within normal range, I wouldnt worry about it. For various reasons, there are different degrees to normal as a monitor will only give you a blood sugar range and not an accurate number. Glucometers can give readings as much as 15% away from the actual number.

Good luck

Hi again
Thanks for taken the time to reply to me. I will try and get my own meter and record some readings. Or l believe if l see my doctor he can do a blood test which can show an average blood glucose number. Then l will have a pretty clear idea if everything is ok. Someone mentioned about the "dawn effect" and l never knew that the liver can release glucose when you have been fasting. Pretty amazing what our bodies can do.
Well thanks for your help.
Bye for now.
