Hi:
There is nothing you should be worried about except they can hurt. I have 3 tattoo's and the one on my ankle hurt like you wouldn't believe. I am not a doctor, but I don't think anything can go wrong. You should talk w/your doctor before you get one just in case. Take is safe before you do anything. :bouncing:

Besides talking to your doctor talk to the artist you have picked to do the tattoo. Make sure you have picked a clean place that you feel comfortable with. Look at the artist book to see what his/her work looks like. If you can talk to other people who have been to the place to see how they feel. Talk to the artist about his tools, the devices he uses to clean those tools. If the artist doesnt want to take the time to talk to you about it or answer any of your questions turn around and find another place.
As for it being painful that is a matter only you can decide. I have 8 tats and I can honsetly say that only one of those seemed painful to me and that is the one on my hip. I even have one on my left foot and that one didnt hurt to me at all. The other places I have tats are both my shoulder blades, left breast, left arm and right calf.

I agree with the others who have suggested talking to your doctors first. Just make sure you go to a good shop who sterlizes everything.

I would check w/ur Dr. just to make sure the meds you are on aren't gonna cause a problem with bleeding. Thats the only thing I can think of. Some people bleed more than others. I got my tattoo on my ankle and the guy was like your a bleeder. It kinda freaked me out. But everything was fine. I can't wait to get my next one. Have fun & be safe.

Other than the pain causing you stress and possible complications with your heart as a result I can't see a problem.
However, as is obvious , a tattoo involves being punctured with a needle many times. There is a small inherent danger with that and you have to be assured that the artist doing it takes all hygiene precautions to reduce that danger. You also have to make sure that you keep the area clean for the next 24 hours as it is essentially a wound.

I guess I wouldn't see a problem with anything. My friends dad does tattoos and I know the main thing is you cant be intoxicated or on drugs when getting one for the fact it thins your blood and you bleed more. I have never heard of anyone not being able to get a tattoo because of medications. Just make sure the place you go is very clean and they sterilize everything. Thats all I can offer you for advice. I will talk to my friend and see if she knows anything more.

I'm just curious. What is the genuine purpose for getting a tattoo? I ask this because having tattoos appears to be "the thing to do" these days. I'm wondering if looking at that same tattoo in the future, maybe 10 or 20 years from now, will make you feel the same.

Well there are some people who get tattoos for good reasons. Say your friend dies and you get a tattoo in remembrance of them. Or say you got a kid and want to put their name on your body somewhere becasue you cherish them so much, same goes for a significant other that you have been with for a very long time and are certain they are the only one for you (the real thing). It can also express your individuality. There are a zillion things to get tattoos of and if someone likes something so much than who really cares. I have a few tattoos that I have had for a long time and they all have some kind of meaning and I wouldn't mind them even ten years from now. So there are many reasons for getting tattoos just because you think it is "the in thing" doesnt mean others out there do.

I personally wouldnt get a friend's name or such on myself...the reason being is most friendship dont last that long. I have only two friendships that have lasted over the years. As for a SO there is no way on earth I would get their name on me..that is a sure fire way to curse the relationship. Any decent tattoo artist will tell you that. Most people that get a SO's name or such tattooed on them will have it covered/removed between 6 months to a year after the inital work was done. I love my Dh dearly but I wont get his name on me. Though we have discussed matchig tats. As for kids yeah I can see getting something of them done on one. My brother just had his son's footprints done along with his name. I am still trying to figure out what to do concering my sons.
My first tat I will have 10 yrs this coming Oct and I still love it as much today as I did when I first got it. All my tats mean something to me and whether it is clear to others doesnt matter. Everyone is different for their reasons on getting tats so no one can honestly give a set answer. For me it is just another form of art in which I can use to express myself.

I too would not get someones name tattooed on me but I do know people that have gotten their friends name in memory of tattoes on them. As for significant others. i am not talking about the people that have been together for one-two years. i am talkinga bout people like our grandparents or parents who are still madly in love with their SO.

I still dont see that being a wise choice...I am still very much in love with my dh and have been with him for almost 9 years. My first tattoo artist gave me a great story that came from a friend of his. This friend had been married to his wife for almost 16 years, had two kids and were still madly in love with each other. My tattoo artist did their tattoos even though he told them it wouldnt be wise no matter how much they were in love to get their names on each other. A year went by and the guy comes in alone and asks to get a new tattoo. My artist asked him where he wanted it and he said he needed it to cover up her name. He was upset because his wife of almost 17 years had served him divorce papers that week.
I have seen many people learn this lesson and in most cases the time together or how much they were in love didnt matter. I have seen too many times where that "curse" ruin the relationship. Go into a tattoo shop and ask the artist what they HONESTLY think of people who get their SO's name on them. Most if not all will tell you it is mistake that will wind up costing you more in the long run. This is why me and my Dh are trying to find out matching tattoos, that way we avoid the name curse but still have something that shows how much we mean to each other...

ya know what, if it is something someone wants to do, let them. is it your body??? It is an expression. If thats how people want to express themselves, just because you may not prefer it maybe other people will, and if for some reason they get someones name tatted on them and they arent together anymore then let them worry about it.

The reason I ask why tattoos are important is because I'm now in my 40s and, as with most people, have quite a different set of values and priorities than I did in my teens and 20s. As we know, tattoos last, unlike clothing or hair styles. All I can say is that I'm sure glad I didn't have to be stuck with wearing the same hair style I thought was so cool when I was 18. Believe it or not, many things we value are the result of being taught so through the mass media. I've been as guilty as the next person when it comes to such a thing. The main reason I've heard anyway for the popularity of tattoos these days is that they're supposed to be an expression of your individuality. There's a contradiction there. If so many people are getting tattoos, how does the "individual" part fit in? When you really think of it, not having any tattoos makes a person appear as more of an individual. Anyway, I just wanted to share an older person's perspective on the long range aspsects of this popular practice.

All i can say is eveyone has different opinions. I guarantee there are old people with tats that still feel the same way about them the day they got them. So you are entitled to your own opinion, but you have to respect the fact other people have different opinions :)

I am actually going to get this done tomorrow. I am just not sure yet where to put it. Any suggestions?? Oh and the question that came up as to why I am doing it. It is in rememberance of my brother who was just killed.

are you nervous??? Well dont be. I have three tattoos in the "painful" spots and it barely hurt.any clue as to where you are going to get it? How big is it? What profession are you in? Those are a couple things to consider when you get it. Its kind of sad but I have barbed wire around my bicep and a couple years ago I was trying to get an apartment, the land lady wasn't going to let me because she could see my tattoo. Well after speaking my mind I got the apartment afterall. But I think Its cool you are doing that in remembrance of your bro. Let me know how it goes.

Medications and bleeding
That could be a concern. Some medications for heart conditions lessen the ability to form clots therefore making a tattoo bleed more. Best ask the doctor about the meds you are on.
