What is the normal range of blood sugars following a meal? How long do most of you wait before checking it after you eat.

I have had type 2 for several years, but have only just recently started to ATTEMPT to take care of myself, so I am almost like a newbie!

I try to never let it get over 140 pp and take my blood sugar 2 hours from the start of the meal.

Good luck to you. I know what you mean about having it awhile and only starting to take care of it. I guess we all come into this in our own time ;)

Some doctors believe it's okay for a diabetic's blood sugar to go as high as 180 2 hours after a meal, but most prefer to see it in the 140-150 range or below.

Incidentally, when they say "2 hours post-prandial", they mean two hours after you START eating, not when you finish your meal.

We've all been there, I think, as far as not taking care of it for a while. Glad to see you getting back on track, and hope to see you on this board often!

I am type 2 and aim for the post BS to be not more than 120. If it is, I walk treadmill to walk it back down.

I control via diet/exercise only and able to keep BS in the non-diabetic range. Fortunately I was diagnosed in the early stage.

I have been recently diagnosed and am in the early stages-still at the stage where nothing makes sense. I am hoping to control it through diet/excercise as well. You say if it goes above 120 you walk on your treadmill to get it down. How long does it take to bring it down by walking on your treadmill AND will it not drop on its own, over time?
Yes I am very inexperienced.

Thanks,
Abbygirl
