I am curious if any other members who take this have had troubles with the larger dose of 60mg.It was perscribed after heart attack, in Sept. at hospital was given 30mg 2 x 24, but when left hospital was given perscription of 60mg 1x24. I read alot about reactions ect of drugs, and if I would go back to the 30mg,twice a day, the times always stated in books and other info is it is the norm any ways to take 30 mg twice a day 7 hrs apart.!! Last visit to heart Dr I asked him if I took what HE had perscribed(60mg)twice a day what would be the other time to take it when I take the am dose at 6am.He said 6pm which is 12 hrs apart!!DUH?? Do they even bother to read the literature that comes with the drugs at all? The 60mg seems too strong for me do better on the 30. Any input will be appreciated.Thank you ,akjoha

Akjoha,
Whoa. Wait a minute! Isosorbide mononitrate for angina is dosed 240mg SR max once a day;20mg twice daily;Alternatively 10-20mg twice daily, taken 7 hours apart.

I take it you are saying the 60mg is not that strong? but that I am correct with the smaller doseage 30mg to be taken 7 hrs apart??
What is the reason for the long period in between taking the doses. For instance:6:am -30mg isorsorbide
1:pm- 30mg Isors.
There is a lull in between of 18 hrs!! I dont understand this myself.
Thank you for your response! akjoha

akjoha,
It is believed isosorbide increases nitrous oxide levels in the blood vessels and this opens up the vessels more. Too long exposure to isosorbide depletes nitrous oxide and the drug is no longer effective. Thus an 18 hour break period allows the body to renew nitrous oxide production.
