View Full Version : Prostate problems? This is what I do..

Note: this isn't really a cancer issue(maybe), but may help someone anyway so I'm posting it here..

I am no doctor (not sure if that is good or bad..) but I have had prostate problems for some time and I have wanted to post my experience in here for awhile. Maybe others can add their ideas.

I have done a bit of reaseach and experimenting and I will outline my current regimen.

Soy: Soy is responible for about 70% of the effectiveness of this regimen. I started out using soy protien powder but later read that the special ingredient is the soy isoflavones. So I started taking a soy isoflavone tablet each day. But after just taking the isoflavones, I realised that there is still something in the soy protien as well, so I still take a little of both. You can get soy isoflavone tablets at your favorite vitamin store. Take one a day. I take mine with dinner. The soy protien, I mix into a chocolate shake and I sip a little each day. I will go through about 1 to 1 1/2 shakes a week. The recipe I use is below.
2-3 scoops soy protien powder
1 teaspoon L-glutimane (I don't know if this does much but I put it in)
Equal sweetner
2 teaspoons of unsweetened cocoa powder
2 tablespoons vegetable oil (olive oil)
Milk
Blend or mix.
I use one of those hand held blenders. The oil is very important. Your body doesn't like pure protien. It needs some fat with protien or else your hormones will get out of balance. Don't go hog wild with the soy as you can get fuzzy brain. That is the drawback with the soy. You get lots of benifits from soy, but if you do too much your brains can get a little hazy. Mine did when I did 5 shakes a week. Then I went totally off soy until my prostate convinced me to go back. So just take enough to get the benifits, but not much more.

Prosta Q: This is a brand name product. It is about 10-15% of the effectiveness of this regimen. It costs about $40 for a one month supply. It has a blend of things. My doc was the one that turned me on to this. The most important ingredient in this is Quercetin I believe. The other ingredients may be just as important, I'm not sure. I tried going it without the soy and that's how I know how effective this is. I get a bottle mailed to me each month. You can get a free bottle from one of the websites below. One capsule 2 times a day. There is also some zinc in this.

A mult vitamin made for men: I take Max for Men by Country Life. I take half a tablet once a day. You can get this and the next three things from the Vitamin Shoppe. This has vitamins plus a few ingredients that are good for prostate and other male related things.

Saw Palmetto and Pygeum extract: I take one capsule 2 times a day. There are several brands of this product. I use the Biochem, Country Life brand. Don't know exactly how effective this is but I've read about this so I take it.

Fish oil: I take the Spectrum brand. Do not take Flax seed oil for omega 3 fatty acids. It may be bad for the prostate. Only take the fish oil to get them. I take one a day.

Flow: The prostate is made to have liquid flowing out, not in. There is a theory about urine leaking into the prostate and causing problems. Maybe like your little valve(sphincter?) doesn't work perfectly as you get older. So, you catch my drift, you've got to exersize the equipment for medical reasons. Keep the flow going outwards. It helps.

No THanks Nettle: I do not take this. Every time I tried this, I would get these random sharp intense pains in different parts of my body. I stopped the nettle, the weird pains stopped.

Hope this helps,
Roy
