Hello everyone - my latest insulin levels were disappointing to say the least! I've been on 500 mg. of metaforin for three months. The first month without was 41, then 12, then 16 and now up to 24. What is happening? My chlorestoral levels are much better with 10 mg. of Lipitor - they are Total C. 282 to 173 to 164 (YIPPEE!), HDL levels 48 to 44 to 41 (don't understand as I've been exercising atleast 5 x per week, 30 min each plus workout)... LDL levels went from 190 to 92.6 to 85.4 (this is another good thing) - and total TRIG's were 351 to 182 then 188. Question, what makes the insulin levels go up and down - other than digesting excessive sugars (the obvious) and what can I do? I tried to go onto 1000 mg. of metaforin and it made me sick, I felt my tummy was going to explode and felt actually (believe it or not) achy stomach and felt the need to EAT all the time to get the feeling to go away (like keeping a full belly while on a ship or something to avoid vomiting?).... I meet with the doc next Tuesday to 'discuss' the numbers - and want to seem somewhat intelligent with my conversation with her. They also want me to try a machine that checks my sugar levels....and was told by the vet's here on this board a long time ago that the doc should have had me monitoring those levels anyway...... Any information and guidance would be greatly appreciated and welcomed. HELP  I feel terribly confused here.

Hi
Do you take 500mg with every meal? I hope you are not trying to take the tablet before a meal which can make you feel sick.

To control your blood sugar levels have you tried having less carbohydrates?
Try brown bread instead of white?

Try searching the internet for key words like "diet and diabetes" Looks like you are doing good with exercise but what are you eating? Maybe your diet needs to be watched. You may be not eating what looks obvious sugar but flour, highly processed foods when consumed show sometimes as much a higher reading as after you eat plain sugar!

Cheers

You can have periods when you first try something where it looks like it is the answer to all of your questions. Then, once your body gets used to it, you find that it isn't. It would be normal for you to feel side effcts from doubling your medication. You don't really need to be educated to go in and see the Dr. That is the beauty of this disease. Either something works or it doesnt. You know you have a good Dr when they are willing to pitch a plan that doesn't work and go to something else.

The best thing you can do at this point IMO is to start keeping a food log. Write down what you ate, the time, and how many carbs were in the meal. This will give him a picture of things you could change and tell him if it is the medication that needs changing. Good luck and let us know how it goes
