I stopped smoking last september but I don't think I can take it anymore. I know how bad is for me and I'm trying to help I friend quit. Yet every time I see someone lit up a cigeratte I just want to steal it from them. I doing ok so far. Does anyone have any advice?

Don't do it, Albeni Almasy!!! You may think that you want a cigarette real bad, but if you start again, believe me, somewhere down the road, (maybe sooner than you think), you are going to wish you were not smoking just as much as you now think you want to smoke, probably even more so. And then you will have to go through all of that mental pain again and the anxiety of the first week or two of quitting, then you'll hate yourself for going back to it. Believe me, you will be sorry!!!

When you say "every time I see someone light up", where are you seeing these smokers? Are they people that you are hanging around with? I quit in Sept. too, just a few days ago it was 5 months. Lucky for me most of my friends don't smoke. I don't see the few smoking friends that I have too often, and to tell you the truth, I probably will keep it that way. This past weekend I was around smokers, some pretty close by, as I was in a casino for 2 and 1/2 days. I don't really have a problem seeing others smoke, especially those I don't know. But if it was a close friend of mine, and say, we were out for coffee or some social event, it would probably bother me, and if it came to me wanting a cig real bad, I would pull out of that situation, whatever it would be, and head home. Don't need any strong temptation such as that, after all the hard work that I've done. I don't want to go through quitting again. But yes, I know that at times I would like to have a cig, and will think about it for a while, real hard. Doesn't happen too often, but when it does, I try to look at what I'm doing and usually it's when I let myself become too bored, like sitting around watching TV and nothing else. Know what I do then? I have a big latch hook rug that I work on. Don't even care if I never finish, I only bought it for those times I feel like I'm ready to break. And it works, honest to gosh, it does. After I start punching those little yarns on the canvas thing, I forget everything. Find something like that, that will DISTRACT your thoughts. Stay away from smokers if you have to. It's not that hard these days as most of the population doesn't smoke!! Thank God!!! Get busy girl! You are quit because you wanted to quit real bad. No one would go through all of this unless they really meant it and truly wanted to be smoke free. Don't let your thoughts fool you! You don't really want to smoke or else you wouldn't have come here right now and posted. And pray about it too. It helps you be stronger. Here's a little angel to guide you, , along with a prayer from me too!

Good luck and be strong!!

My dad and a friend that is living with me smokes. It gets really annoying sometimes. I'm always busy. The times I just sit there are very rare. Yes I truly do want to be smoke free. Thanks for the support. Here is an angel for you

Thank you Abeni--

Wow, that makes it tough, didn't even think it would be something that close.
Could you ask them to smoke outside, or at least in one room only, perhaps the kitchen? I know that would be difficult to ask if it's your Dad's place and if he's paying the rent. But I don't see how they can't try to help you out a little bit, especially if you tell them that it's making your quit very difficult, and you are afraid that it will lead you back to smoking. If nothing else, can you just get away from them when they are smoking? You have your own room there, right? I know you can't be in your room all the time, but you could always go in there when you are home and just close the door. If it were me, I know I would do something, or at least try to, to help my daughter.
Let us know more details of your living arrangements and we'll try to help you girl. :)

Stay strong...

That does kind of stink (pun intended) that you live with two smokers. You never really got to see how wonderful it is to come home to a house that doesn't smell of smoke. My computer room still smells, because thats where I did most my smoking. I guess I'll have to wash the walls. Whenever I'm tempted, I think of how bad that first drag tastes and how I'll get a sinus headache from that first smoke. Even though this is kind of the ex-smoker stuff I hate, look at your smoking housemates and think about how disgusting they look while smoking, how they smell bad, the dirty ashtrays, the holes in the carpet. Make yourself see the bad stuff. Congratulations on making it this far, you are a very strong person.

If you handled smokers around you this long then you can go longer. If they smoking around you then just leave the area. I am sure they will be done in 5 minutes. Also, if they respected you concern they wouldn't do it around you. Good luck

They usually smoke in the computer room. If my father or my friend is in my room they will smoke in there. If I ask them not to they won't. The livingroom, kitchen, bathroom, and dinning room are non-smoking rooms. We have a huge house 5 bedrooms, 2 baths, kitchen, living room, dinning room, computer room, clothes room, and the back hallway, and four door garage. There are plently of places for me or the smokers to go.

Amen - it's not worth going back. Granted - I'm sure we've all missed it at one time or another, but to go back to it - for what? For what? There isn't a reason good enough and yes that first drag is enough to make you slap yourself for even thinking about it. I quit for 6 days before this big cold turkey quit and I was shaking my head the entire time - knew I was gonna quit again and proud to say it's now 103 days smoke free and not tryin to go back.

Stay strong and remember why it is we all wanted to quit to begin with. What's the big deal about it anyway - think of it that way.

Laurie :) :bouncing:
