Is anyone getting tired of me posting the days? :) Well, it's day #12 and I'm doing well. I've noticed that the first few hours of the day (which for me starts at 4:30 am) and the last few hours of the day are my hardest. But even at that, it's nothing too bad. I have noticed that I have slightly more energy than I used to. I'm really trying hard to quit chewing the imitation stuff and start using Jolly Ranchers or some other hard candy as a substitute. My plans are to completely quit chewing the fake stuff over the course of the next few days. After I've got that under control, all I'll have left to do is to wait....and wait.....and wait. I've heard that the more time you can put between you and tobacco, the better you feel and the less you think about it. I feel like one of the most important aspects of quitting that I've learned thus far is how important it is to constantly remind yourself of all the reasons that you're wanting to quit. Because as the days go by, you can sometimes forget things. Always have these reasons on the "front" part of your brain and never let go.

Hope everyone's doing well and I wish everyone a great weekend! I'll talk to you guys again on Monday. (Which will be day #15!) :)

You know, if in fact you have a bad back (and I'm guessing you do), quitting can help with the blood flow and keep the discs in your back lubricated. When I got two ruptured discs in my neck, physical therapy helped, but the pain did not totally subside until I quit smoking. And no, I don't get tired of you posting at all!

Dave--I'm not tired of you posting either. In fact reading your posts are very encouraging to me, and I'm sure they help inspire others that are thinking about quitting. You are doing a great job, keep it up Dave.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Guilty & Deda,

You guys are too kind.

Guilty - Yes I do have a "bad" back and since I've quit tobacco, it hasn't hurt as bad. I haven't really thought about this until you just mentioned it. It still hurts, just not as bad. I've been taking Lortab/Hydrocodone 7.5's three times per day every day for the last 2 years for a stubborn, chronic backache. I quit taking this medicine at the same time that I quit the tobacco - 12 days ago and haven't touched the medicine or tobacco since. I've laid all my problems, past sins, burdens, etc. at God's feet and have completely surrendered to Him.

Deda - You're doing a great job yourself. I don't know many folks that have enough composure, will power or whatever else that it takes to limit yourself to only a few pieces of nic. gum per day. My guess is that for you to go completely nicotine free will only be a matter of winning the mind-game. What do you think?

Thanks guys/gals,

Dave

Wow! That is impressive! Off all the pain meds at the same time as quitting smoking! Sometimes I think the pain meds, even though they physically cut the pain, make us mentally unable to deal with whatever pain is left. I have to admit, I asked God to help me quit so often that I was embarrased to ask again! I know my success was through him and my failures were my own.

Keep them comming!!

I've unconsciously developed a competition against you ... I'm one day behind and would hate to see you loose the lead as much as I'd hate to increase the lag days on my part or what's even worst, drop out of it completely :D

I'm looking forward for this life-long race :)
