Does smoking cause weightloss?

I started smoking around last April/May. since then I have had mono in december, and now weigh about 12 pounds less then what I use to.

I use to be a good sized kid and never weighed that much. I was always atheltic. I started working out and got my weight up to about 193. I havent worked out in a while and when I had mono i weighed about 173. Now i weigh about 180. Is this normal for someone who smokes?

It's a good theory, but no, it doesn't cause weightloss. It's one of the reasons I started smoking, because I thought it would. Over the years I gained about 60 lbs. It can mess with your metabolism, for some people it helps them to stay thin and others gain weight when they quit. I didn't do either. It will make you stink. It will cause you sinus and respiratory problems. It will cost you a lot of money. That's not even getting it to the it may do .....

Why did you start smoking? The mono probably made you lose weight. The mono was probably a good deal worse from the smoking.

I agree with guilty and would think the mono caused the weight loss unless there is some other underlying link. My Dad had mono when I was high school (I used to tease him that he was kissing someone he shouldn't have been - Mom of course did not find it amusing LOL) and all he did was sleep ALL THE TIME. So he lost weight as well.

Keep your quit whatever you do :)
