If you needed to get your toenails removed surgically, is there a such thing as replacement toe nails? (fake or real?)

(fake or real?) twobadfeet 02-29-2004, 11:16 AM You'd need to check with your podiatrist, but I wouldn't use fake toenails (even if I could find them.) Your toe bed needs air as it heals and your nail regrows. And as anybody who has ever used fake fingernails knows, the glue that holds them on doesn't allow for enough air circulation. That's why people who wear fake nails constantly often develop fungal infections. Water and bacteria get trapped in there, there's not enough air to evaporate the water and the little critters grow like crazy. I'd check with my podiatrist about how long it takes to grow new nails. Sorry I can't be of more help, but maybe somebody else on the board has been through this. twobadfeet gcol51 02-29-2004, 02:06 PM Dear Bubble Boy, I have had my toenail on both feet removed more than once. (The big toe each time) I had a big problem with ingrown nails, until I learned how to properly cut them. Anyway, I agree that your nail bed needs air to heal. I was very surprised at how fast it grew back! There must be a good reason for you to ask about wearing a false nail. I'm curious as to what it is:) Good luck, Gail Cindy Stoller 03-02-2004, 10:31 PM If you needed to get your toenails removed surgically, is there a such thing as replacement toe nails? (fake or real?) If you had the whole nail removed, as I assume you have, there's no good "fake" nail to replace it. Again assuming you are male, then you wont care that once the skin is completely healed, you can paint the nail, just like the rest of them. There's a money making opportunity for you: create press-on toenails! |
