Hi guys,
I just posted on the weight loss board, but I thought I'd post here as well. I'm just so frustrated with my weight (132 lbs). I cannot lose the 15 lbs I want to lose, and have been trying to lose for a year and a half now (since I took myself off of Zoloft). My weight has not fluctuated 1 pound since I quit the Zoloft, and I've tried EVERYTHING. My doctor suggested I try a soup and salad diet awhile back, and I did it for 15 days without losing 1 pound. Currently, I'm on my 9th week of doing Winsor Pilates (4 times a week) and although I really feel a difference in my strength, there is no difference in my appearance. I haven't lost any fat at all. I've also been doing 30 minutes of cardio on an elliptical, 3 days a week and I'm on my 4th week of that. I've been eating good for the past 9 weeks, and I've recently cut out a lot of carbs from my diet. I just don't know what to do here.... It's really depressing me. I'm not overweight, but I don't feel good at the weight I'm at. I'm only 5'3, so I definitely feel best when I weigh around 115 or so. I've read the Prozac Truth website, and they suggest a $200 detoxification. Yeah... I don't have that kind of money, but I'm so close to buying it, even if it is a scam (which I wouldn't doubt) just because I'm so desperate. Oh yeah, I've also had my thyroid tested and the tests came back normal. Has anybody ever tried a detox before?? If anybody has anything to say that might help me at all, please respond. I'd really appreciate the support, I'm getting so depressed about this. Thanks.

Hi Whiskers,

I'm new here, and your post was the first I've read. I basically feel the same as you do about the weight loss. I'm weening myself off of Zoloft right now, and am not seeing any weight loss. I'm 5'7", and 138 lbs. I was always a size 4, and 120 lbs, but gained quite a bit of weight since I became depressed and started taking meds. I am not comfortable with my weight either. I'm tired of all my jeans getting too tight, and having to buy new ones.

I had a hyperactive thyroid when I was in high school, and was 105 lbs for the longest time. I hated being that thin, I had no shape and looked like a stick figure. I had radioactive iodine treatment for my thyroid, and that fixed it. But now that my thyroid is normal, and I'm gaining weight, I almost wish I hadn't fixed it! lol It was so nice to eat and eat, and not gain a pound!

Anyway, I have not tried detox. I'm kind of nervous to do it. The method I'm using right now to lose weight is to drink a Slim Fast shake for breakfast, lunch, and then eat a small dinner. I exercise a little each night, but nothing too vigorous. Slim Fast really works if you stick to it. If you haven't tried it, I'd recommend it. Also, I'd try eating smaller portions. I always find myself putting more on my plate than is necessary. Don't eat until you're full, just eat until you're hunger is satisfied. I'm sure you've heard it all before, but those are things I found that work pretty well.

Anyway, good luck!!

If you've been off the Zoloft a year and a half, there's no way it's still in your system, so detox wouldn't help. (If there even really is such a thing. Sounds like a marketing ploy to me.)

Has your doctor run thyroid tests on you? If not, ask him to do that right away. If nothing shows up there, ask him to refer you to a dietician. They will probably tell you to keep a 3-day food diary before you go in, so you might as well start doing that. (You have to write down the exact amount of everything you eat and the time you eat it. It's hard but it's only 3 days.)

You all have heard my frustration in trying to lose the 10 pounds I gained while on Zoloft for only 6 months. I do have a friend who rapidly gained 20 pounds on Zoloft after only taking it for 2 months. She also had severe short term memory problems and it made her extremely tired, so she quit cold turkey. She was so unhappy because she couldn't lose the weight for a very long time. She was pretty much convinced that she would be this way forever and that her metabolism was permanently changed. She warned me about all of this before I went on the Zoloft. But then one day I saw her and she was very happy... she'd lost 9 pounds and was much more optimistic about losing the weight. That's the only "success" story I know about... everyone else just posts stories like our's.

I'm nervous about the Prozac Truth detox too and I probably won't do it.... am interested to hear if anyone else has success with it.

I think you're probably experiencing the "last few pounds" syndrome. When you only have 15 pounds to lose it's going to be tough. Especially if you feel like you need to lose it, but your body doesn't agree. I'd be willing to bet that if you've been dieting, you aren't eating enough which will then put your body into starvation mode and it holds on to EVERYTHING. Can you give us a sample of a daily menu? Keep doing what you're doing in the exercise department because it certainly can't hurt and will keep you healthy mentally and physically.
Peace,
Susan

Whew, I'm glad to hear one success story, at least! I gained 40 pounds on Paxil. When I switched to Lexapro, I didn't lose weight, but at least I stopped gaining. But I also saw a dietician and realized I was consuming a lot more calories than I thought I was. I'm trying to change, but it involves really major lifestyle changes, namely making time to cook for myself, which I can manage occasionally but never for more than a week. I did it for 2 weeks once, though, and lost 10 pounds. I gained it back when I got too overwhelmed with other things to cook.

I can barely summmon the strentgh to throw a frozen dinner in the oven these days. In fact, last night, I couldn't - I just had some muffins my roommate ha left out. Lots of sugar and empty calories. Num.
