HI
I know someone who recently was diagnosed with Lung cancer, that spread to the brain. She is in her mid 60's. She has been going through Radiation and is done with it for a while, i guess. I am kind of close to the family, and alot of them are in denial. I dont know what to say, or how to talk and be there for them, I have lost family members due to cancer, and i never got the chance to let them know how much i loved them or anyother things i wanted to say, before they died, and i regret that so much , i do not want to see them going thorugh this. I know people deal with things in certain ways, but also this FAMILY NEVER EVER lost anyone they were close to, they did not know their grandmothers/grandfathers ETC.. I just want to be there and do what i can for them, and i dont know how. I dont know what to say. Another question i have is, (I think the cancer is a stage 4)She goes this week to visit her cancer specialist. I want to know the staging and what can be expected .. Thanks VERY much!

Well, since she has mets to her brain, it by definition means that she has stage IV lung cancer (as you wrote), and treatment at this point is not curative. The treatment they'll offer her is palliative (i.e. for symptomatic relief.)

My sister age 45 was diagnosed in January with Stage IV - it has spread to her brain, heart and ovaries - she is done with radiation and is taking Iressa they have only given her 6 months to live and were almost at 2 already. She is very energetic and in good physical shape so she has that going for her but she has a lot of headaches. She is trying to enjoy what time she has left but I worry about what will happen when she gets bad because right now she is doing so good. Hope your friend is doing OK keep me updated if you don't mind.

Hello,
My dad is in the same situation. Primary source is the lung and has metastised to the brain. First let us not loose hope! I know the doctors say he has 3-6 months.
Has any of you looked into other options, like clinical trails? How about accupunture or holistic or homeopathic medicine? Anyone try these? I know I'll have my dad try this.

Joseph- My husband is 44 and he to has lung cancer which has spread to various organs and bones. I am not sure if it helps (does not hurt) But my husband is taking 2 different herbal formulas, not for survival.. but for comfort. Because his oxygen level is greatly decreased, he takes a liquid called "cell food", manufactured by Lumina Health. Also, Ginko Biloba is also another good herb that supports circulation and oxygen flow.
Because the cancer has spread into my husbands bones as well (spine.. hip was replaced) he takes another formula called "Bone defense", manufactured by KAL.
You should able to find these items in a local health food store. I am not sure about cell food, but I have purchased bone defense on-line when our health food store was out of it. Before using any herbal or holistic formulas, we did get the blessing of the oncologist. I woudl recommend you do the same. While receiving chemo therepy, or any other pharmaceutical drugs, you have to heed caution with herbs.
The very bst thing he can do is walk, if he can. Even if he can only take short walks outside, it will help him tremendously.
Good luck.. You are ALL in my prayers!

Hello all,
As you can see by the dates on the posts, I haven't been on for awhile.
Well, it has been "way" past 6 months (Docs said he had 6months to live). My dad is still alive and doing well.
The doctors were able to reduce the tumors in the brain. They removed the nodule in the lungs. They are still obeserving the tumors in the brain.
Lately he has been out of balance. As a result, we placed him in the hospital and is waiting an MRI.
Hopefully this helps people and not to lose faith! As many of you know and have said/experience that people who have stage 4 cancer are short lived.

I had posted on the lung cancer board before, but my dad too started with lung and has metastised to the brain. We had noticed that he was having stroke like symptoms and when he got his ct, we have found out it has spread. Before it had spread, he was getting chemo to shrink the tumor in his lung and when it had shrunk, they were going to remove it. They have quit the chemo and his oncologist has given him steroids for the swelling and they have helped immensely. He is also going to begin radiation treatments. starting tomorrow. Today he is going in to have his mask made.
I guess we just haveto hope for the best...and enjoy the time we have.
