Hi.....this is my first time to post here, although I come here alot and read the posts. Ok, here goes......I was wondering if any of you have ever had any problems with skin tags? I have them all over my neck, it makes me so self conscious I wear a turtleneck whenever I go anywhere. I have been thinking about having them surgically removed, I just keep putting off going. I would appreciate any replies from anybody who have had this problem.

Skin tags are very common especially as people get older.
I have a few on my neck but have friends who had many of them. One friend had them removed and it left little black marks that faded shortly afterward.

ICK- me, too! I have a couple on my neck that my hair usually hide, but with summer ponytails coming..........I have noticed a couple on my back and arms, too! I wonder if insurance covers removal, or is it considered "cosmetic"?
No answers here, sorry, but tons of commiseration!

I've got lots of skin tags too. Sometimes wonder if they're genetic as other members of my family also have them. I've had mine since I was young. Used to work with a doctor who would tie a piece of suture round them, pull it tight & tie it like she was sewing up a wound. That meant the blood supply was cut off, so they turned black & fell off :D
I've got a few on my neck & my pet cockatiel tries to pull them off

I had a large one removed from under my armpit. The derm numbed the area and simply cut it off. It seemed so simple that I have cut a few tiny ones of my neck myself. I cleaned the area with betadine and made sure to have a bandaid because it bleeds alot. You cant even notice where I cut them off. They seem to occur where the collar on my shirt ends. Maybe they occur from iritation from the collar? The one in the armpit from my bra?

You inspired me Jacksinn, so I went and cut one off on my neck with sterilized toe nail clippers. It worked great. It did bleed for quite awhile, but I am looking forward to not seeing this thing on my neck. I have another one on my neck that is next to go.
I also have one near my armpit close to my bra. I think that once they get on you, they seem to spread. So you have to cut them off right when you see one start growing.

Your insurance will cover this at a derm's office. I can't believe you cut them off yourself! That is exactly what my derm does but I just can't do that!
Gutsy you are.

I have had skin tags on my neck too. I had them removed by a doctor. My insurance covered it. They freeze them with liquid nitrogen. They turn black and fall within days. Mine have not come back and its been over 2 years.

i'm nineteen years old and i've had dozens of skin tags throughout my life but when i was about 10 years old i got 11 skin tags removes from my neck. my curly hair would get tangled around them and pull on them and occasionally cause bleeding so i'm pretty sure insurance didn't call it cosmetic.
either way it was pretty painless. they were burnt off with a little laser (the smell of burning flesh is the worst part). and i had to get a shot in the area of each one to numb the area. the shots weren't bad at all, the doctor related it to an ant bite and i'd have to say i agree.
oh, and about 9 years ago the cost was only $10 per tag
and the little black specks from the aftermath are true, they were scabs or something from the burning, but they are gone with in a few days.

Yeah you don't need a prescription for Bio-T.. maybe look it up on Yahoo or a search engine, you should be able to find it.
