Hello everyone.....
Was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on a good nebulizer. I am looking at the net for portable ULTASONIC types. There inexpensive and one dealer told me his brand was good but broke often. Another dealer told me his model didn't brake much at all.
I would rather listen to you, the end user, to make up my mind. Please comment on the models, ultasonic vs. compressor etc.
Also in closing, has anyone had muscle aches especially in the neck area from using Singulair or inhaled cortisteriods?
Thanks again!!!!!
Don
From what I understand, the main difference is liter flow (how much drug can be delivered in how much time, ultrasonics can be much faster but the faster ones are also more expensive) and particle size.
There are also different types of compressor nebulizers, there are the jet types and the venturi types.
I haven't enough experience with specific models of nebs to recommend ones (my experience is restricted to the Airlife jet neb powered from medical air on a wall, and NPB ultrasonics, so that's a pretty narrow range) but their efficacy does depend on the company. There's as such thing as a good jet nebulizer, and there's as such thing as a crappy jet nebulizer, as well as a good ultrasonic and a crappy ultrasonic.
The ultrasonics are extremely portable, you can get some that are battery-operated or operated with a 12v car-jack plug that you can take travelling, they are more compact whereas the compressor can be bulky. You also can't wash them the same way you can wash the equipment from a jet nebulizer -- the medication chamber from a disposable jet nebulizer can practically go in the DISHWASHER, but most ultrasonics can't be immersed in water. Some ultrasonics you also have to buy medication cups for, and some you don't.
It really depends on what your insurance will pay for and what you need it for. Ultrasonics can be very expensive, but replacement bits for jet nebs can add up.

We have an Omron CompAir Elite(a very small compact compressor neb thats no bigger than an ultrasonic) and love it!Its the best thing we could have gotten.
We also have a pulmo-mate,its big and a bit noisy but has been very sturdy. We have a Compair which is the large not quite portable version of the Compair Elite and it too is good,a little quieter than the pulmo-mate.
I too looked at ultrasonic ones, the Omron Microair is the one I've heard good things about...I really don't know about the rest of them.

Thanks for your replies. I have looked at many ultrasonic nebs and the Omron looked to be the best based on the warranty and price. A bit more expensive but looks like it might be a good one.
Many thanks.....
