I HAVE A STEP SON THAT IS 10 YRS OLD HE WAS IN THIRD GRADE AND HE FELT BECAUSE HE READ BY HE DONT COMPREHENDING WHAT HE READ, I REALLY THINK THAT HE HAVE SOME LEARNING PROBLEMS TOGETHER WITH PSICOLOGY PROBLEMS, I MAKE A APPT FOR TO GET HIM EVALUATE AND FIND OUT. BUT IS REALLY FRUSTRATED THIS SITUATION AND I AM REALLY TRYING TO WK WITH THIS .
I LOVE HIM HE IS SPECIAL BUT SOMETIMES I DONT KNOW IF I AM DOING THE WRIGHT THING FOR HSTENG , AND HE FORGOT EVERYTHING.
BUT THE SAD PART IS THAT THE SCHOOL DOEST WORK WITH US AS PARENT, I THINK WHEN THE SCHOOL SEE THAT U ARE A RESPONSABLE THEN THE SCHOOL SEAT AND DONT HELP THAT MUCH.... I HAVE TO BE CALLING THE SCHOOL ALL THE TIME SO I CAN GET SOMETHING DONE... THAT IS ANOTHER FRUSTRATION.

you might try contacting your local school board and talk to someone in the the exceptional student departments and explain thae situation to them maybe they can expediate the screening process for the evaluations that your child needs. best of luck to you. my grand child has many of theses same learning problems she is in the exceptional student program she is in specail classes in her school she was screened therough the school . i understand your frustrations you must be insistant with the schools and contact the social worker at the school if you get no where callt he school board or go there and talk with a supoervisor as a taxpayer you have the right there is a program called no child left behind insist on it for your child this is for specail needs kids and a child with learning problems fall in that catagory please let me know how you come out

Thanks For Your Opinion And I Want To Let U Know That I Already Contact The School Board And The School And Hopefully By Next Week They Will Have A Meating Where They Are Going To Decide If He Need Special Education. Is Frustrated But I Dont Have The Heart To Give Up Because I Love Him Like My Son..... But Thanks For Your Help. Your Message Help Me And Gave Me Support

Keep calling the school, keep bugging them. That is the only way you are going to get them to do anything. My daughter has some learning disabilities, and I am in her class all the time. I check over her work she brings home and if I find something that she is having trouble with, or that she couldn't do..I take it back to school and ask them what they are going to do to help her learn this. You HAVE to keep on them all the time.

Have you tried a neuropsychologist? One that specializes in learning disorders? you might talk to your doctor about it. The best way to get him help in the school is to have him diagnosed by a doctor. That will help you know where to turn next.

Yeah I Got A Evaluation Thru A Psycology And We Have Another Appt To Ck Him Good The Specialist Think That He Have Some Of Odd And Add . I Really Need To Help Him And Find Out What He Really Have So Then I Know How To Treat Him Because I Dont Want To Treat Him The Wrong Way Either.... He Is The Best Think God Put In My Live Because He Is The Son That I Never Had... He Is Really Sweet But When He Get Anger He Doest Think .... And I Think That Affect Him At School

Hi Delrae4753 Yeah I Got The First Appt With The Psicology And Still I Am Waiting To Find Out What He Really Have So We Know How To Take Care Him. He Is A Difficult Kids Sometimes I Ask My Self And I Ask God What I Am Doing Wrong That He Dont Change. That Little Kids Is Like A Goal That I Have To Proof Me And Proof Alot A People That I Can Make Him Change And Be A Good Person And Be Somebody In Live.... Good for you!! Please don't take any of this personal. If he does have ADD, there are great meds and diets to help with this. You might do some research on the diet part now, and that may even help him. I know that low fat milk, and margerine are BAD for kids with ADD. I went to a great conference once with a leading doctor in the field of ADD. He needs to have whole milk, and REAL butter. it is important for him to get Vitamins A and D naturally. And these are only in WHOLE milk naturally.

I Did't Know That About The Diet That The Kids With Add Or Odd Should Follow Because Like I Sd This Is All New For Me. But Because I Love Him So Much I Really Want To Really Learn Everything About It ... I Want To Really Sd Thanks For Everyone That Are Been Hand By Hand With Me With All The Support.. I've got to interject here that this is one physician's point-of-view and is not accepted practice in the field. Most people, at this time, recommend getting vitamins A & D from other natural sources, not from saturated fats. There is a growing body of professionals who believe we need more polyunsaturated fats and Omega 3 oils in our diets. But, you don't hear many suggesting more animal fats.
I am a cynic, it is true, but I'd be willing to bet that this doctor has a book to sell.

I was not implying that Milk and Butter is ALL he needs. But if ADD kids are going to have milk and butter, it should be real butter and whole milk. Margarine is full of garbage our systems don't need and can't really tolerate. Low-fat milk has had the vitamins D and A separated from it in taking out the fat, and has to be put back into it. Whole milk has these vitamins naturally without human help.

Hi I Want To Give U Guys A Update About My Stepson He Still Going To Therapy With The Psycology And He Start Medication They Gave Him "depakote" 250mg But He Just Start That Medication Last Nite So Let See What Happening. The Only Bad Thing Is That He Did't Qualify For Ese At School Because His Iq Is To High, But Know That He Start Medication He Is Going To Have A Posibility To Get Help In School Thru 504 Program Not Sure Yet What That Is. Thanks For All The Support And Happy Easter To Everyone !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

This is great!! Can I ask why they are giving him the Depakote? Did they find something going on?
A 504 plan will help so much in school. This is something they do for kids who may be having trouble with learning because of medical problems or medicines they may be taking. Just be sure to stay on top of them, keep pushing for what you need for him, and don't take no for an answer!

Good job, Melylove, getting your stepson the medical and school help that he needs! I'm proud of you.
Section 504 is federal law that says a child cannot be discriminated against because he has a disability. When they write a 504 plan for your stepson, it will include things that should help him *in the classroom*. Things like extra time on tests, extra time to turn in his assignments, or behavioral things like not having recess taken away when he misbehaves. Until you have that meeting, think of whatever you can that would help your stepson in the classroom.
As momof3 said, if we knew what diagnosis they gave him, perhaps we could suggest more accomodations for you to ask for in the 504 meeting.

Thanks Both Of You For Write Back To Me You Guys Are Helping Me So Much. Ok The Reason That They Gave My Son Depakote Is Because The Psycology Sd That He Really See That My Son Have Add With A Posible Adhd But He Will Have A Stray Answer When He Got The Result From The Add Evaluation. He Sd That Depakote Together With The Terapy Will Help My Son Alot..... I Am Sad Because They Told Me That He Dont Qualified For Ese Wish I Really Think He Should But Because Of The Iq Test He Dont Qualified. But They Sd That If The Psycology Give Me In Reading That He Have Add And The Reason That He Decide Medicate Him That They Will Consider 504. my granddaughter who is now 10 has been getting ssi disability for 3 years she is add,adhd,odd,depression,ptsd her mom applied for her i think she gets a sizeable check i too am in florida go to the nearest ss office and apply also get in writing from the pediatrician or what ever dr diagnosed the child get a diagnosis in writing. keep us informed now keep in mind my grand daughter is not my daughters natural child she is a legal guardial because the natural mom died.

thanks delrae i am going to ck everything and see what we qualify or not ..... but the good thing is that he feel better .... but i am also afraid because he went to spend time with his real mom and since she saw the diffrent on him with his medication she start telling him that maybe soon he will go back... and that make me sad because we dont have custody yet ...i praid to god that nothing happend until we get the custody ... thanks

hi everyone is been a long time that i dont give all of u a update of my situation, my stepson is keep going to the psycology evaluation and the psyquiatric evaluation and he start some medication (DEPAKOTE 250mg). the think is that i dont see no change with the medication is since like he dont change.... i hope he change before is too late for him and for all of us... he felt the FCAT test this year again and i dont know
