I am pregnant with my 3rd child and wondering if Advair will keep me from going into labor. When I was pregnant with my first child I was taking Theodur and Proventil, which did keep me from going into labor (induced at 42 weeks). This time I am only taking Advair (lets hear it for new meds!) but wondering if the same thing about labor applies. I was on Serevent and Asmacort with my second but didn't have the same problem as I did with the first. I am 39 weeks with number 3.

Some bronchodilating medications (most notably terbutaline or bricanyl) are actually given to slow labor. Other bronchodilating drugs have the same effect but to dose high enough to get an actual effect on your pregnancy would cause some serious cardiac side-effects, unless you're predisposed to be the type who doesn't go into labor quickly and easily.

Truth be told, just because you were induced doesn't mean it was your asthma meds that kept you from going into labor -- but it can't be proven that it wasn't, either.

Go look up infofrmation on Serevent, as that'll be the drug you're worried about. Flovent (the other component of Advair) won't keep you from going into labor, but I highly recommend you do the drug research yourself.
