Does anyone else with fms have problems when they first go to sleep? I get these really strange like vibrations in my head hard to explain what it feels like, and it usually seems to cause a lot of muscle jerks and jumping. I also wake up from terrible dreams and I feel scared. Its such an awful feeling and I would love to hear from anyone else who has similar experiences, just so I will know that Im not alone with this.

some medications cause those reactions durring sleep. Are you taking any hypnotic type drugs, seditives or antidepressants also some pain meds and um marijuana. :dizzy:
Part of fibro is sleep problems so alot of the time we have to take meds for sleep. My Dr. tried a couple that made sleep time very freaky. Ambian works really good I had no side effects from that. But when I swiched to Kiaser they didnt cover it, now I take lorazapam..works great too. Fall asleep fast and stay asleep.
If you arent taking any meds and are having this problem I think you should talk to your Dr.

Can't sleep either. Doc gave me Ambien, which worked great for sleep. but it seemed to make Fibro symtoms worse.. Changed to Xanax to help me sleep. Doc told sleep problems are common with this disease.

Hi smackliet,
I'm interesting in knowing a little more about your experience with Lorezapam (sp?) if you don't mind. I have been taking Ambien for almost five years and the effects are not as good as anymore. I do have fibromyagia over the past year (diag that is) and the pain due to lack of sleep is terrible and getting worse. Recently the doctor prescribed Klonopin and after 2 months, no help. I do have occasional "anxiety moments" and the sleep as I said is 2 or 3 hours a night. I would appreciate any assistance/advice you could pass my way before calling the doctor back. She suggested the last time possibly Ativan, but it sounds like you are having good luck with the Lor.
Thanks!

Ambien actually seemrd to make my Fibro pain worse. i don't know if it is imagination or not. Also it seemed to put in a bad mood. I tried not to take it everyday, but once I took it 5 days in a row and I was like a tyrant. When I didn't take Ambien, I was not like that. My mother takes Xanax so I tried that. Although it made me sleep, not as well as Ambien, but my moods improved drastically. So I don't know what to do. Is the Ambien making my Fibro worse? I read the side effects, it does mention muscle aches , but they are under the rare catagory and it seems like every drug has those same list of side effects. As far as the Lexapro, I stopped taking them. I'm going back to the doc today. I'm going to see what he says. My Fibro is getting worse the past two months. My problem is the Neurologist says I have Fibro and the Rheumatologist says I don't. both these doctors are rated as tops in their field in the Chicago area.

Hi all,

I've been taking Flexeril along with two Tylenol PM now for many years (diagnosed over 10 years ago). That usually does the trick, but there have been times when it doesn't help. I also started taking a Vitamin E, B and Calcium along with the Flexeril and Tylenol PM, and I found that if I take all of that about an hour before bed, then settle down and watch TV so I can unwind, I usually get sleepy enough to go to bed and go right to sleep. If I go to bed too quickly, and the meds haven't had a chance to start working, then I start tossing and turning right away because of the pain in my legs and then I can't get to sleep at all. My internist put me on Mirapex for a while for the restless leg syndrome, that is actual a drug more commonly used for Parkinson's, but it did help for about a year, then I seemed to have built up a tolerance to it and it didn't help anymore. I was also diagnosed with severe sleep apnea during that same period of time so now I have to use a CPAP when I sleep, this actually helps me sleep and feel much more refreshed in the morning because I get good sleep. I experienced horrible nightmares when I was first diagnosed, my doctor said that sometimes the nightmares are part of the depression that goes along with the fibro. I think the first anti-depressant he put me on was Amitriptyline, it really helped me sleep and the nightmares stopped. Good luck, I hope some of this is helpful to you.

Amitryptilan and NOrtryptilan are both used to help sleep issues with Fibro. Sometimes Celexa in low doses is used as well.

Yes I Get The Vibration Feelings From My Head Down To My Bottom Spine. I Feel It When I Lay Down The Most. And Muscles Spasms As Well. I Am Not On Anything To Cause It. I Have Fibromyalgia. I Will Not Take Medication Because Nothing Ever Helped Me. I Just Try To Take Natural Things. I Find 5htp Helps Me Somewhat. It Helps My Depression And My Anxeity. You Can Give It A Try. But What Works For One Person Dosnt Always Work For The Next. But Give It A Try And See. Take Care

Does 5HTP help you sleep. i did order it from Vitamin Shoppe. Neuro has me on Ambien to produce more serotonin and Zoloft which is suppose to block cells from using it up to quickly. His theory is Fibro is caused by a chemical imbalance between Adreniline and Seratonin.

Hi Rstarre, I Hope Your Doing Ok Today. I Know This Rots To Have. No It Does Not Irritate Me. I Usually Don't Get Problems With Natural Supplements. Now My Sister Does She Has Fibro Also. She's Always Nausea. And Her Stomach Gets Irratated Easily. I'm Glad Its Working For You Somewhat. Im Not As Sore Today, You Just Never No. One Day You Can Feel A Little Descent Then The Next Day You Feel Like Your Dying. I Hope Someday They Find A Cure For This. So Many People Are Getting It. I Feel Sorry For Children Who Get It. Take Care. I Hope Your Supplements Keep Working.

Actually Lorazipam is Ativan. The first 2 or 3 times I took it it didnt work, but after she increased the dose it works fine and I havent had any side effects.
I really likes the ambien alot though, it put me in a really good mood. I felt very cheerful @ bedtime. :) But when i switched to kaiser they didnt cover it.
But the lor works just as well but doesnt give me the cheery evening side effect...oh well. My son liked me taking the ambien, he said i was always funny at night.

Don't remember if I asked you this, but have you tried Tramadol? I got it from someone I know who has Lupus. It takes that burning/vibrating feeling away for more than it kills pain. It also puts you in a better mood. I read on Fibro sites that others have said the same thing about Tramadol. If my doctor won;t give it to me, I'm going to order it on line.

Tramadol is the Generic form of Ultram

I have never tried it. I have been in pain since 99 but the pian meds they gave me the first year scared me off of trying anything.
I am tired of constant pain, maybe its time to try something.

Let me know how it works out for you.

Tramadol is not that strong. but for Fibromyalgia symtoms, they seem to work better than Vicadin. I'm talking about the burning irratted sensations you get with the disease. I've taken Vicadin for a few years and I like Tramadol better.

Please read Dr. Teitelbaums Fatigued to Fantastic, revised edtion booklet. There are many suggestions for better sleep, which is the key to feeling better. I am using the Sleep Formula, made with Valerian. It is gentle and there are no side effects, such as nightmares and jumping legs. A neurologist put me on Elavil and I had bad dreams, jumpiness and extreme "hang over" the next day. Now when I wake up I am refreshed and alert.

Yes, all kinds of strange things happen when we lay down to sleep. I sometimes have almost panic attacks. I get to sleep and then body jerks so you wake up terrified. I get hypersensitivity in right foot mainly, sometimes muscle cramps, etc. I do the in-home walking program on video tape by Leslie Sansone 2-3 miles a night which wears me out so much that I usually pass out for awhile bypassing all the aforementioned strange symptoms. I can no longer do the upper body arm movements due to frozen shoulder. Sometimes I just do the walking without tape at a really slow pace on bad days and wear a pedometer to measure distance as I know it is important to try to keep our whole body functioning as much as possible. Right now I am not taking any meds except for Motrin. However, I have tried several in past and had bad side effects to everything thus far. However, I have been referred to a rheumatologist May 27th so this may change down the road as Lord knows I need help.
