To lose weight.I was at the doctors today and they had a pamplet in the waiting room (Weight Loss Clinic is also there) and it had stated in there a plan for 1200-1500 calories per day I was wondering if anyone else goes by this and how long did you take to lose weight? My mother had a Bone Mineral Denisty test done today and she 1.26 which is 10 to 15% below average for her age.She is over weight She wont say but I guess around 220 at 5'4 well they said she needed to lose weight 50 pounds I heard that much and take calcium pills they have caught this early on her.She has 6 mths til she goes back.I as you know am losing weight also and I know she wont do my plan so I am thinking of joining her which would be great to have a buddy to work with. She is cool about this. They gave her the pamplet on this plan due to many med's she takes.Hormones and high blood pressure and all that great stuff I get to look forward to.
the plans reads...
1200 calorie to 1500 calorie
1200-protein-75 to100g...1500 protein 94-125g
carbs-120-135g........1500- carbs. 120-135g
total fat -40g...........1500-total fat- 50g
sat.fat-13g..............1500-sat fat- 17g
sugar-30g max ........1500-sugar 038g max
walk 30 to 45 minutes perday 5 days a week
2 days of cardio work out
6 to 8 glasses of water or more.
says what most books do eat the good not the bad..
So has anyone done this and if so how was it?

I did a 1200 calorie a day diet. I started it in April of 2002. I lost 35 pounds and have kept it off so far. I used www.fitday.com to keep track of all the calories.
I ate whatever I wanted as long as I didn't go over 1200 in a day. That meant that sometimes, if I wanted something really calorie laden, I'd save up my daily calories just to have that one item. Not the healthiest choice, but I lost the weight nonetheless. :) I didn't exercise.
The plan you've listed here sounds like a great plan. It looks like your basic diabetic persons diet, a proper balance of exercise and nutrition to keep you healthy and active. :)
I mentioned before using fitday. If you do this diet, and I think you should, try using the fitday. It will help you so much to keep track of your calories, nutrients, and exercise all in one easy place. It's free. I can't stress enough how this helped me keep track of my progress and continues to help me maintain.
I went from 156 to 121 pound. My goal was to hit 130. On fitday, it shows your progress over time; here was mine.
April 5th -156
May 5th-147
June 5th-141
July 5th-136
August 5th-134
Sept 5th-130
I continued to eat 1200 calories a day but didn’t keep track anymore on fitday and by about February of 2003 I weighed 121, way below my goal. At that time, I started using fitday again and adding calories until I quit losing. I started eating 1300-1400 calories a day. I fluctuate between 121-123 on any given day. And remember, I don’t exercise. If you exercise regularly, you could eat more and still lose, or lose faster.
From time to time, I stop using fitday and try to “wing it.” Over time, I find myself eating more calories when I’m not paying attention, so I have to use it. It’s a small sacrifice of time for the benefits I’ve gained from being thinner.
Go for this diet. It sounds good to me. I think your mother can absolutely reach a 50-pound loss in 6 months. The weight will fly off at first. She could start out eating the 1500 for a month or so to get used to eating less, then move on down to 1400 and so on. The trick is, DO NOT CHEAT THE FITDAY! :nono: If you eat cake, make sure to mark it down, if you sneak a cookie in the kitchen or a handful of chips, MARK IT DOWN. The little “cheating” calories will blow the diet if you’re not careful.
Good luck

Use the food search tab they have or as I have done is customize your own food.I for example have one of Newmans dressings and its not on the list so I got the bottle sat down and added in all the info on the back of the bottle.

I tried adding "peanut butter sandwich in the search box, it came up. You might not have been able to find it because peanut butter is 2 words.
You could also add a peanut butter sandwich seperately. For example: Add 2 pieces of bread (whatever kind you have) and then 1-2 tablespoons of peanut butter (whichever you have).
Once you add a food, it appears in the "add recent" column so that you can just choose it from there next time. I find that I eat a lot of the same foods every day or week. They are usually in the "add recent" column so it saves times when adding.

I have a question about fitday on the "Goal" tab I put in the above daily fat, calories, carbs and etc ok when you enter them which one am I suppose to go by in that box at the top of the main page where it shows the Calories You Have Eaten Box do I go the grams or the % total
And Lindarella thanks so much for letting me know you did great on this plan.My mom said this is what her doctors would always tell her to go on to lose weight. So far I have been doing this with her and making her name every little chips she eats into it.Its getting her to eat is the problem she can go all day and not eat a meal but grab this or that and make it thru the day and then eat a dinner (not over doing it).I am working on her water part 60oz is the most so far. Thanks she was glad to read someone else does this plan still.
Thanks again

You would go by grams since grams is what you added to the "Goals" section.

I put in cheese sandwich and it shows 3 pages of hits....
Where are you trying to search for the food? WHen you click on the "Foods" tab on the left, it will take you to a page with 3 sections. The first column is titled "Add a Food", the 2nd is titled "Calories eaten today" and the 3rd is "Calories breakdown."
To add a cheese sandwich, type cheese sandwich in the box that says "search" then hit the Go button. A new page will come up listing different cheese sandwiches.

I just wanted to bump this back up as of today I have lost 22 pounds on this since Jan.I wish I had did this a long time ago.Its great I eat pretty much what I want as long as I dont go over and I have been eating more than 1200 on the days I am working out and doing things such as yard work or when I helped a friend moved. No more than 1400 is my goal.I am glad to say I have lost my second chin.. :bouncing: I hated that thing...
Lindarella I made a copy of your weightloss with this and fitday and I am trying to stay with you on this. Some days I feel like I have ate so much and when really I didnt.I have been eating which was my main thing.3 meals a day and I make sure I eat breakfast.I feel so much better.I just wanted to let you know how I was doing. Its helped me plan my meals out for the day with my snacks and coffee...I make room for that which I have cut down on and I am doing great on my water....
I have one question maybe you can figure this out.We drink sweet tea at my house its a gallon pitcher with a cup of sugar how would I break that down in a glass on fitday? I have given it up pretty much but with summer coming I know I will be making more of it and would like to know.If it isnt to bad I would like to fit in about 2 glasses a day. :D
Thanks so much..

It sounds like you’re doing great! It’s pretty easy once you get the hang of it.
For your question about the tea; I got out my trusty measurement converter.
16-8oz cups in a gallon
1 cup of sugar is 48 teaspoons
1 tsp of sugar is 15 cals
There are 3tsp in each 8oz glass
So each 8oz glass you drink will have 45 calories.
Have you ever tried Splenda? Splenda is great. I drink a cup of hot cinnamon tea every night with Splenda. The best part is, it has 0 calories, so you could drink tea all day long and never have a calorie! You could replace some of that water. Personally, I can’t remember the last time I drank a glass of water straight. Yuck. :p I drink a lot of coffee and diet sodas or Crystal Lite.
If you like soda, Diet Rite soda is the only soda I know sweetened with Splenda. It’s pretty good stuff. I make root beer floats with it using low fat ice cream as a treat.
Keep up the good work. You’ll be svelte by summer.

Thanks Lindarella on the glass of tea total.I've had 2 glasses this week.I was on "TOM" week and that was all I craved  go figure...I was waiting for the choc. monster to start calling. My scale reads the same weight as last week which in my book is fine with me.I will wait and see what my weight is Thursday and see how I have done. The most calories I hit this week for a day was 1209 that was today.I just havent been in the mood to eat and I didnt drink alot of water either.I'm not big on soda but I do like Crystal Light.I have some splenda and I use it in my coffee except in my first cup and I switch back and forth thru out the day with it and sugar.Or if I see I am getting to much sugar on my fitday chart I back off.I wish fitday would allow us to add sugar with the fats and proteins..I could keep a better eye on it.Thanks again for all your help.
