Hi
I turned 40 last month and haven't had a period since January. I have a history of endometriosis and ovarian cysts which both were operated on 18 months ago. I've been suffering major brain fog for the last year. My periods were always on time and lasted a week with heavy bleeding so not having one is a bit of a shock. I've been really tired for the last 6 or 8 months and have deep dark circles under my eyes. I've also been diagnosed with IBS but have that under control. I've noticed my temper has been really bad for the last month or 2 to the point where I'd readily hit someone if they aggrivated me. I'm not pregnant as I had my tubes tied 18 months ago and took a pregnancy test just to make sure which was negative. I'm suffering from headaches and migraines on a weekly basis and aam now taking beta blockers to help avoid them. My period was late when I went to the GP bout my headaches. I told him I was late and he just dismissed me saying I'm too young for menopause. Could it be menopause? I'm worried about my temper in case I do cause a scene in public. Is there anything I can do to help?

Is there anything I can do to help? Whoa, you are Soooooooooooooooooo into perimenopause! AND you need a new doctor! (IMHO! He/she should have mentioned the possibility of peri-menopause) I started perimenopause @ 40, too. Irregular periods after years of clockwork consistency, losing hair, losing sleep, thinking in a fog and feeling tired alla time. :(
To a great extent, we are genetically locked in so talking to your mom (if possible) about when she went through the 'change' and what her symptoms were like in the run up to that - it's really useful info!
Peri-zappers are a godsend! Check 'em out in the book, Before the Change. Dr. Phil discussed them on one of his shows 'cause his wife says they made a huge difference for her. He's got a link to them @ his website.
Good luck!

Thanks charli
I had a look at Dr Phil's site and will definately try the suggestions. I'd never heard of peri menopause before (how ignorant am I!!). My mum had a hysterectomy at age 37 so she never went through it and none of my friends either older or younger have been through it (or admit it) so I'm on my own here. Its just nice to know that there is a name for it and I'm not falling apart.

i went thru early menopause because of my thyroid problems. you may have the same problem. get your thyroid checked ( simple blood test for TSH count) do it asap, you may NOT have to go thru this at your young age....

I don't think your to young at all>>I started at 42. I'm no Doctor but since you have been check out I would say Welcome to the club. I told my husband the other day if I didn't kill someone before menopause was finish it would be a miracle. Now I'm only kidding since I'm have always been such a gentle and kind person and couldn't hurt anyone. But my coping skills and the word Patience (I had to look up in the dictionary) are gone. I hate to drive to the store, seems everyone is driving so stupid! I will get upset over the dumbest things like running out of milk! I find this happens worse now doing PMS. I have always had PMS but not like this! My kids are grown and one thing that helps me and bring me comfort is being with my dogs and horse. Glad you had your thyroid tested since I needed a increase in my dose. Estrogen plays around with thyroid hormones. I have tried being on BC twice now but they made my PMS WORSE! Plus I have tried antidepressants but I can't take (I just can't deal with the side affects). Take care it helps to know your not alone! ~C
