I don't know how many years ago that was. I understand that he really was a great surgeon at one time. But some believe that he has been coasting on his reputation for some time. He has had some pretty nasty personal problems which have been well documented. I can tell you of my own experience - a strange consult I had with him. When I asked to see pictures of work he had done, he took a dog eared polaroid out of his pocket. I asked to see it and he wouldn't let me touch it. Then after he looked at the area of my body we consulted about (for less than 5 minutes), he told me which procedure I should get. I then asked him a few questions about the procedure itself, and he angrily got up and walked out of the room, closing the door behind him. It was as if he thought I had a nerve even asking ANY questions. He was "God" and who was I to ask him anything! I waited for a bit, because I just couldn't believe it. Finally, I put my clothes back on and went to the receptionist. At least she told me that I wouldn't be charged for the consult (normally $175). Truly bizarre.

I have also heard that he has been using residents to perform surgeries, rather than doing the work himself. I feel that if you are paying a premium for a particular surgeon's skill, then you should only be worked on by that doctor.

Anyway, I wouldn't use him these days.

Dear Jean, that must of been a horrible experience and this doctor should be reported. No one deserves to be treated like that. I heard that doctors who act like god should be avoided all together. Any doctor who makes you uncomfortable in any way should always be avoided. I had Joseph Mccarthy look at me since he came recomended by a friend but when I went to see him...he was sooo aloof and not responding to my questions or would giving me short answers instead and made me feel very intimidated since he is the top professor at nyu that I felt in my heart and gut feeling that I should look for someone else. And I was right. Now I am reading in many articles on finding a good ps that anything that makes you feel uncomfortable like intimidation or not answering all your questions or anything..etc. should be dealt with by finding a surgeon who gives you the time, answers all your questions and is their for you...treats you respectfully and understanding of your situation. I want to let you know that you are not the only one he has treated like this. There are other stories of Daniel Baker being less than human with his patients. I am sorry to hear that doctors like this exist since they probably hate what they do and are there only to make a buck.
I hope you find the right doctor and good luck. thankyou for you personal story...it is great that we all share our experiences so that we can truly keep these doctors under a public watchful eye since no one else screens there behavior or their cosmetic results. God bless
