It was a dark, irregular flat (small) spot on leg, near ankle. About 3 years ago I showed it to a dermatologist,he said it looked"fine",last year I showed it to a new one,he said the same thing.I recently worked for a dermatologist and showed it to 2 of his nurses, they both said it did not look like anything to worry about at all,and they have seen a lot of "bad" things.Well, today I saw my new dermatologist, actually it was her P.A,I showed it to him,he said"just keep an eye on it" and he freaked me out! he said if you are gonna lose sleep worrying about it,lets take it off right now.and he did. Now, I am going to be a wreck worrying about the results! It looked like a small dark brown freckle, actually. But he said it had slight color variation in it. If it were melanoma it would have had some changes over the past 3 years when I forst saw it right? It has not changed at all. What do yall think??? Thanks for your help.(P.S. I have been told this guy will cut off anything you show him by several people)>

Hey there,

Well i must say that i think that you would have noticed some change in the mole if it has been at least three years. My guess it would be noticeable change.

It only takes a few minutes to cut off a mole and doesnt even really hurt as well. So i dont think it is a big deal your new derm wanted to do this. This way you know it is gone and you dont have to keep watching it every week. Now you can forget about it and get on with life.

Hi Southern Diva
I completely agree with Greg here. I've had quite a few moles removed which turned out to be normal. As Greg says, once it's gone, you can forget about it!

Hi I have also had the same mole since birth and never had any changes, BUT I finally got tired of seeing it, it was right under my arm so noticeable with baithing suits so I decided to have it removed even after about 15 Doctors throughout my life said it was fine. The first time it was removed it came back a little because they only did the surface. It went to the pathologist and came back ok. The second time they did it they cut deeper and the pathologist report said I had dysplastic nevi, so I had to go in again, the last time everything went well, my Doctors exact words were I was a baby step from Melanoma. Here is a mole I had all my life never changed and looked fine. I went because it was ugly good thing I did. If you have a gut feeling have it removed it does not hurt and insurance covers it usually. Good Luck

As long as the mole doesn't change noticably you have nothing to worry about. Moles that go from light colored to dark or if the edges change than it can be a cause for concern. I think you will be posting when you get the results and tell us it was nothing.

Hi BLJ
You have a very good point about 'gut feeling'. I knew I had a malignant melanoma before I saw a doctor even though I had never seen one in my life. I've since looked at lots of pics of them & mine didn't look like any of them. It didn't itch, hurt, bleed.. in fact I had never even noticed it before on my inner thigh! I knew right away when I did see it, that it was 'different' though & am so glad I had it removed otherwise I may not have been here to tell the tale.

Thanks everyone.I know it is probably going to be fine, once I hear the results, but lately I have been worrying too much about every little thing it seems! The "thing/mole" I had removed was actually a small dark brown freckle looking thing on rt. foot right above ankle. It had been there a very long time and many people, drs and nurses both said it looked ok,but for whatever reason this dr removed it.will let you know results.keep your fingers crossed for me!
