I am just wondering. I can't seem to lose the extra 20 pounds I'm carrying from having kids. My son is 2 and for some reason the weight is not coming off like it did with my first child. I am on different meds this time around. Has anyone else has weight problems with any of these? Atrovent, Advair 500/50 and Singulair.

I read something about oral cortesteroids and weight problems. But I don't think Singulair has any steroids in it? But I'm not sure.

The 500 in Advair refers to the dosage level of inhaled steroids in the Advair. The 50 refers to salmeterol, a long-acting form of albuterol, a beta-agonist. Advair 500/50 means you are getting the highest dose of inhaled steroids available in that particular brand of inhaler. Normally inhaled steroids have much fewer and much less drastic side effects than taking steroids orally. However, it might play a role in your difficulty in losing weight. But it may not. Steroids can increase one's appetite, help one retain water, other things like that that result in weight gain. It's best to talk with your doctor about it.

No its not the thyroid, my regular dr has tested me for that twice, the last time being about 3 months ago.

Hmm, I don't have the lab sheets. I never asked for copies, should I have? It never occurred to me to do that, I guess I probably should. The last blood test I had in December cost my insurance $1500, they checked for all kinds of stuff, according to the statement I got from Blue Cross. But the dr never really went over each thing. I guess I will make an appointment after tax season (I'm kinda busy at work right now!) and go see him again.

I'm currently taking advair 250/50, and also I'm on Alesse (birth control). I began these around the same time, about 2 years ago or so, and I'm having a lot of trouble losing any weight at all--I need to lose about 15-20lbs, and no matter how much I try, or what I do, it doesn't seem to come off! I think I need to switch from the 250 to 500 though, because lately I've been having a LOT of trouble breathing--I'm using my rescue inhalor at LEAST 4 times a day, sometimes more.
