Hi!
Usually I am in the inner ear boards, but I am also going thru menopause and wondering how much of what I am suffering is from menopause. These are my symptoms:

-first of all I have been dealing with dizziness and vertigo which came on last summer
-I am having lots of neck pain and TMJ headaches which come from the back of the neck, up the back of the head and over the top of the head into the area of my sinuses (very painful headache)
-hot flashes
-muscle weakness
-heart palpitations
-increased heart rate from time to time
-nausea

My hardest symptoms are the dizziness and the neck and head pain. I haven't had as much trouble with mood swings as I was afraid I would have.

Also, I am 46 and since March of last year have had only one period. So, where does that put me in this whole menopause thing?

I would love any input, especially if you share in some of the same symptoms. I find the nausea is hard to deal with also. It's hard to get things accomplished when I feel flu-like!

Also, failed to mention there are some days when I just plain don't feel good. Nothing I can put my finger on, but just feel weak and I just feel yucky.

Thanks for your help!

Vicki

Vicki Oh jeez, Vicki, you sound like a poster child for perimenopause (the lead in to full fledged menopause)! Here's a list of common symptoms for both:
> Hot flashes, flushes, night sweats and/or cold flashes, clammy feeling
> Bouts of rapid heart beat
> Irritability
> Mood swings, sudden tears
> Trouble sleeping through the night (with or without night sweats)
> Irregular periods; shorter, lighter periods; heavier periods, flooding; phantom periods, shorter cycles, longer cycles
> Loss of libido
> Dry vagina
> Crashing fatigue
> Anxiety, feeling ill at ease
> Feelings of dread, apprehension, doom
> Difficulty concentrating, disorientation, mental confusion
> Disturbing memory lapses
> Incontinence, especially upon sneezing, laughing; urge incontinence
> Itchy, crawly skin
> Aching, sore joints, muscles and tendons
> Increased tension in muscles
> Breast tenderness
> Headache change: increase or decrease
> Gastrointestinal distress, indigestion, flatulence, gas pain, nausea
> Sudden bouts of bloat
> Depression
> Exacerbation of existing conditions
> Increase in allergies
> Weight gain
> Hair loss or thinning, head, pubic, or whole body; increase in facial hair
> Dizziness, light-headedness, episodes of loss of balance
> Changes in body odor
> Electric shock sensation under the skin and in the head
> Tingling in the extremities
> Gum problems, increased bleeding
> Burning tongue, burning roof of mouth, bad taste in mouth, change in breath odor
> Osteoporosis (after several years)
> Changes in fingernails: softer, crack or break easier
> Tinnitus: ringing in ears, bells, 'whooshing' buzzing etc. You're considered menopausal when you've had no period for 12 months, so congrats! You're about there  :D
I highly recommend peri-zappers!! (Dr. Phil has info on them on his site). They help sooooooo much ;)

best wishes,

Hi, Charli!
Thanks for the input! I know that there are SO many symptoms with menopause. Along with this inner ear thing, this is not a fun time in my life. Alot of days are just coping!
Once I am menopausal what happens then, and also do you have any idea how often menopause causes dizzy disorders? Just curious if you have any info on those things.
One of the things you listed that I forgot to mention but have just noticed just in the last month or so is that I have stinky feet! I have never had a problem with foot odor and I have really wondered about that. I figured it surely must have to be tied to menopause but wasn't sure. Weird stuff!
Thanks for the information!
Vicki

Hi Vicki,
I've experienced many all of the symptoms you listed except I didn't have the vertigo and the nausea. I had some dizziness and headaches also affecting the back of my head and also the front of my head several months ago. Lasted 24/7 for months. Nothing really helped to relieve the pain. I also felt weak and tired. I can understand how horrible you are feeling. My GP told me to try to take 3 Advils (250mg each) three times a day (not to exceed a total of 9 pills). It kinda helped but not really. I felt I was popping pills all the time. I even tried sinus headache pills, Aleve, Tylenol, etc. etc. but made sure I didn't mix too different pain killers each day. I felt like my head was so stuffed up, ***** and couldn't think clearly. I started taking Magnesium (total 1,000 mg daily) and my headaches eventually went away. I have read that Magnesium helps.

I still have occasional neck pain and some lower back pain even though I am stretching and exercising daily. I also have had muscle weakness, stiffness, burning arms/feet, internal shakes, fast heart rates. I still get occasional hot flashes that last a few minutes only and sometimes I can still feel the fast heart rates. Other than that, I am much better. I am taking on Paxil Cr, taking lots of vitamins, 160 mg of a soy shake, exercising sometimes 2X/day.

How long have you been feeling bad? Did you see any doctor?

Take care,
Molly

Hi, Charli!
Once I am menopausal what happens then, and also do you have any idea how often menopause causes dizzy disorders? Just curious if you have any info on those things. Vicki Well, as I indicated, using peri-zappers (and continuing to use them in menopause) really helped resolve many of my problems (which included: brain fog, thinning hair, achy joints, weight gain/bloat, irritability, fatigue).

These days my concentration is better, my hair's returning, no more achy joints, I lost weight, regained my sunny disposition and am perky to the max. LOL :D

Books on perimenopause and menopause by both Ann Louise Gittleman and Dr. John Lee (they each wrote their own, but admire one another's work) helped me tremendously. I strongly recommend them. ;)

best wishes,

charli

VickiThey're in Gittleman's "Before the Change" book and include things like Evening Primrose Oil for the GLA, and Flax seed oil (FSO) for balancing omegas...both help with breast tenderness, mood swings, etc. And then there's zinc, magnesium and other stuff. Check it out! ;)

You say you are glad it is over, how long did it take you from start to finish? Just trying to get a good mind set here on how long I will need to go thru these things.

Hi Vicki,,,,,I am new here, but very much interested in all the complaints I have heard about perimenopause and menopause,,something I might share with you that might be beneficial is that I have had a partial hysterectomy about 8 years ago (still have ovaries) I am 49 and sure I am menopausal since I haven't had a period for 8 years.. I have mostly been dealing with high anxiety and panic attacks in addition to buzzing sensation in my head and tremor like feeling inside my body,,,I have been on synthroid for hypothyroid (underactive thyroid), but recently did a lot of reading on thyroid and how many woman have thyroid problems but because doctors only go by blood work,,they are told they are fine,,,,,,even if the blood results are borderline,,,,anyway,,,I started reading about Dr. Lowe and how so many woman with thyroid problems have many of the same symptoms as menopause,,,,,,I just started taking a natural thyroid medication called Armour about a month ago,,,,,and I am like a new person,,,,,,,the synthroid didn't do anything,,,couldn't loose weight, still felt tired, etc.....and since most of these doctors don't know much about thyroid except going but blood work (which incidently doesn't mean didly,,,,,a good doctor will treat the symptoms even if blood work is boarderline normal.......anyway,,,,,check out your thyroid and get a doctor who will listen to you,,,,,if you go into Yahoo or any search engine, key in Dr. Lowe and read what he has to say about thyroid, menopause and how many of the symptoms are the same......good luck!! Hi Ladykarluk,

How interesting to read what you've written about the thyroid. I have mild hypothyroid, been taking Levoxyl 0.1mg for several years. I had read Northrup's book where she said exactly what you are saying about the thyroid. The only comment I had with the Endo was that there's a lot of controversy, which means he wasn't willing to listen to what I had to say. BTW, I don't intend to go back to this Endo. Where do you get the natural thryoid med called Armour? Did you take it in addition to the synthroid? Also, are you telling me that you have been in meno for 8 years and you still have all these symptoms or are they thyroid related?? Yikes!!!
