Hello I am new here. I have a few questions... Here is a little background. I am 12 weeks pregnant. I was diagnosed with acute asthma 4 years ago. I was stupid and continued to smoke. I have recently quit due to pregnancy. I don't know if it's the fall weather or being pregnant, but I cannot breathe. I havn't had to use my inhaler for about 2 years. Now all of a sudden I am using every day and night. I vomit after my coughing spells because I cough so hard. It is keeping me up at night. All this coughing can't be good for the baby. Do you think pregancy can trigger asthma or allergies this time of year? I have no clue what to do to help. The coughing is worse when I lay down. Help!

Thanks so much for your reply. I called my OBGYN and he told me to ue me inhaler and take some tylenol cold meds at night. If it does not get better in a few days to go in and see him. I think I might have a slight cold as well. My 2 yr. old keeps coughing like I am. So maybe we are catching something. I had severe asthma when I was pregnant with her. So I bet this pregnancy will be the same. Thanks again

Do not be afraid to take your asthma inhaler during pregnancy.
The harm to the fetus from a lack of oxygen and a lack of sleep is much much worse than any harm that could come from your medications.
