Hello!

I was referred to a specialist about an enlarged node in my neck some months back in fear of Hodgkins Lymphoma. Anyways, the specialist said it felt ok, and that he did not want to biopsy as it could intervere with nerve transmission to my shoulder.

Well he said he would take a blood sample in order to see whether there was any underlying virus causing the swelling, and I wondered, would they have tested for HIV at this time?

I ask as stupidly put myself at risk last week and so before waiting for the 3month window to elapse, it'd be nice to know if I was 'clean' when I had this blood test.

Thanks!

Hey there,

Well if your doctor ordered a complete white blood cell count, this will not detect the presence of the HIV virus. However on the blood form he may have also requested an HIV antibody test as well. However i dont think he would have done this without asking you or telling you, so it was probably just a normal complete blood count. I think you will need to specifically ask your doctor for an HIV test if you want one.

I think you will need to specifically ask your doctor for an HIV test if you want one.In Florida, there is the Omnibus law which states that no one can test you for HIV without your informed consent)Precounsling and Post counseling to occur unless you are being tested anonymously( given a number instead of your name etc.)The only exceptions to this rule is if one has committed a violent crime against a person,( the perpetrator may be tested without their consent)But, they still have to be informed that the test is being done.
