I think you should go see your doctor and especially an allergist. They can give you the proper medication to help you. If you have breathing problems it's most likely you have asthma and allergies. You probably will need an inhaler to help you with this. Asthma can be serious and you need keep it under control. If you're only using water and yourself to help calm yourself down and start to breath regularly again, you should really look into getting medication to help you. If your heart is beating irregularly, this also could be very serious. I'm no doctor, but you should take this seriousely. Please go see a doctor, you'll be happy you did.

You need to see a doctor for the answer; however it does sound like you may have asthma along with an anxiety disorder. Either one can cause the other to flare up. Neither has a specific test to diagnose either, just examination and questionning on your history and your family's medical history.

If you are having a problem breathing, the key thing is to not panic (and of course getting the proper medications). The sooner you have the proper medications, the more confident you'll feel that you will be ok in the long run and this will help you relax. I know how you're feeling. Just try to relax as much as possible. If you ever feel really out of breath and don't have your medications on you, or your medications are not working for you, do not be afraid to go to the emergency room. I am not trying to scare you, but if it turns out you have asthma, you will feel better knowing that you are not on your own and you can always get immediate help. Just try not to panic. As you know, it will only make you feel worse. But please get a proper diagnosis. You need to control your asthma so that you don't cause permanent damage to your lungs.

hi im 14 and i have asthma, ive been in hostpital gor a week before because of ot aswell, and id be lucky 2 go a day without goin really breathless and having to use my reliever, and the key is 2 not 2 panic, im not sure of other people do this but i dont concentrate on my brething because that makes you think about your situation more which in my case would make me eeven more breathless, i just tend 2 take a puff or 2 and then just carry on what im doin as if i wasnt breathless and it goes away in time, unless you feel you are really really breathless then the best thing to do is keep calm and phone for an ambulence.

The previous post was right. You don't want to concentrate on your breathing too much b/c that can casue you to panic. Just try to breathe normally and call an ambulance if you don't feel your situation is improving.

Jareth,

Hey, I'm 14, also, and I've had asthma for about five months. I used to have the same reaction you do - total fear and panic. I ended up putting myself in the hospital because I paniced so much once. At first, asthma is really scary and you will panic a little, but eventually it becomes routine and you won't panic or get scared. You have to keep telling yourselfit's okay and you can't let this fear rule your life. It's okay to be scared, but din't let it put your health in jepardy.

If your heart symptoms continue to persist despite relaxation techniques and diaphragmatic breathing you should ask to have an EKG and possibly an echocardiogram, just in case. Heart problems can crop up at any age and they CAN cause secondary breathing problmes. There is even a condition called cardiac asthma.
