View Full Version : Panic Attacks, I think?

I have had this really awful experience off and on for about seven years. I have had the "typical" panic attacks before, so I know what those are like. This other experience though isn't the "normal" panic attack. I know everyone experiences them differently, but this experience that I have makes me just want to die. All of the sudden out of nowhere I feel this extreme feeling of guilt, panic and un-worthiness. I have a very loving boyfriend, and when this happens to me, I try to hide it as best as I can. These ones only come at night. They are so bad I usually end up sick to my stomache.
When they happen, I try to distance myself and think positive, but usually I just have to wait them out. I had them about 7 yrs ago, and they went away for a long time, but for the past 4 months I have been having them. (I am going in to see the doc in a few days) but in the meantime, can anyone help me? (Just for background I do have an anxiety disorder) Thanks!

I had a couple of these in dec. and jan. (it could be the holiday seasons  ). Mine were usually at night and I wouldn't even be thinking of anything. Sometimes, It could be a movie or a really bad though. I thought it was an extreme way of being depressed, but this was more unusual. It was like a depression attack. This made me feel sick to the stomache and I almost couldn't control my thoughts-no focus. A feeling of guilt, unwortheness and lonelyness came over me too. It was so bad I couldn't even cry cause I was so past that. Eventually this went away, but I kept my self very busy. Although, now I can't sleep alone at night or be alone. Hope this helps!

Sounds like you may have depression along with PA. A lot of us do, they seem to go hand in hand. Talk to your doctor about it, the negative thoughts are a big part of dep.

Sounds like panic and depression like someone mentioned already.
I got involved in a cbt group last summer and learned how to retrain my brain through the simple exercises they taught us. My anxiety level is way lower than before. The tools teach you how to keep your thoughts from getting you all wound up and miserable. The two books we used in my group are really really good and I would recommend them both highly: Been there, done that? do this! By Sam Obitz and Mastery of your Anxiety and Panic-Third Edition by Michelle Craske and David Barlow which focusses on panic disorder which I suffered from, but have not had a single attack since the group :)
