View Full Version : Is the insurance company being mean?

I've been on disability for a few months now because my diabetes was out of order. I'm awaiting an insulin pump so that I can go back to work, but I think the insurance company keeps playing games saying they haven't received requested papers when both the doctor and I have faxed and sent what they asked for. Do some insurance companies do this on purpose. I know the cost of the pump is a lot but wouldn't they rather I be at work with the pump than waiting at home wasting time.
I got a letter in the mail saying that I should apply for SSD because I may exceed the 26 week time period for the regular disability. Hopefully I should be returning to work soon before this time but should I still apply for the SSD now. The letter also said it takes two months for a SSD claim to even be processed. Is this true? I'm a little scared because I've heard several people complain about getting denied for SSD.
What should I do???

What should I do??? Yah, stalling is a common insurance company tactic. Send them the stuff registered mail one last time and then threaten to go to your state's insurance commisioner (believe me, insurance companies LOATHE and FEAR that. You'll get their attention).
Good luck

No. speaking as one who works insurance.... this is not a stalling tactic. We have certain federal regulations regarding criteria we need and timeframes we have to adhere to. Have you spoken to someone specifically in the dept where the information was requested??? I know numerous times if it is sent to Customer Service it NEVER gets upstairs to where I have to review the claims.
Do we fear the state??? No, we have policies and procedure that we adhere to in order to be recognized and believe me... we dont do ANYTHING without checking regulations.
