Okay, so I'm wondering about everyone's cocktail of meds and/or supplements in managing the H virus. I'm still a newbie with this virus. I was only diagnosed 6 months ago. So I figured I'd ask and learn about everyone's meds/supps. So, please list all your meds/supps, your frequency in taking them, and what they're for. I'll start.

Valtrex 500mg tabs - once daily - suppressive therapy
L-Lysine 500mg tabs - once daily - amino acid supplement that interferes
with the replication of the H virus
Echinacea capsules - once daily - builds up the immune system
Zovirax cream - five times daily - OBs (I've never had to use it except in my
initial OB. It didn't seem to work for me.)

Hi Wennie,
Mine is as follows:
1000mg Lysine first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. Sometimes I take some Coral Calcium with it. Coral Calcium is said to increase the body's alkalinity (viruses, bacteria etc thrive in an acidic environment). Also, Lysine helps the body absorb calcium, so I figure it makes sense.
Multi Vitamin and 2 Kyolic garlic pills after breakfast.
Olive leaf extract at some point in the day, usually before bed, usually on a fairly empty stomach.
1000mg Vitamin C at some point.
Sometimes a little extra Lysine at some point if I am feeling vulnerable to an OB.
I also baby powder my bottom after my shower. That's where I get my OBs, on my bum, just inside my crack. The baby powder is a nice touch and keeps the area dry.
This has been a pretty good cocktail for me so far. The Lysine first thing in the morning made a really big difference, I think.
I also try to stay away from processed sugars. I eat lots of fruits and vegetables and I'm very active. I try to get plenty of sleep. Don't drink much alcohol (maybe a glass of wine on the weekends). All of these things have really helped me get my OBs under control. I wouldnt even know I had it... if I didn't know already.
Oh.... I also gave up thongs. As I said, I get my OBs on my bum, just inside the crack where a thong hits. I figure that any irritation there was not great, so I made a complete switch from strictly thongs to strictly really cute boyish panties. All different colors, sometimes I feel like i'm wearing "Under Roos" for those of you who remember those, but they're SO comfortable and as long as they don't really have tight elastic I can wear them with slacks to work and not worry much about the panty line. They don't show at all with jeans....And my boyfriend things the undies are sexy.
Good luck. Have you found that your cocktail is working? Have you had a lot of outbreaks since your first?

Hello Wennie,

Since finding out that I have herpes about 9 months ago, I've been doing lots of experimenting with different "cocktails" and finding out what works for me.

First, I have discovered that my OB's occur around my period ... urrrggh! Then I've found out that everyone's body is different and what works for one person doesn't necessarily work for someone else.

But from what I've gleaned off of other posts and trying them out, here is my cocktail ....

* Super Lysine (w/Olive Leaf & Astragalus) - 1000 mg in the morning on an empty stomach. This is an immune system builder also.

* Valtrex - 500 mg in the morning and if there is a potential OB, I take another at bedtime. I tried Famvir but had massive OB's so I went back to Valtrex. Does anyone have an answer for that? I'm curious why that happened!

* Wellness Formula -it's a herbal defense complex tablets. I'm trying to build up my immune system.

* pH Booster - it's a liquid that I put into a glass of water everyday. I really feel that this virus LOVES an acidic body and I'm trying to keep my body balanced using pH strips. Also, I try NOT to eat to much acidic food.

When I have an OB, I've found that garlic oil works great! So after I urinate, I have a squirt bottle with hydrogen peroxide, alcohol, liquid Lysine, squirt of pH Booster and tea tree oil mixed together and squirt it on myself in the genital area. Then I apply garlic oil using q-tips. Then! ... (I think this is a very important step) I try to keep the OB area dry so I pat the area with Mexsana medicated powder (it's like cornstarch).

Also, I did invest in the product Choraphor but haven't had an OB since it arrived. But from my research, sulphur is very healing and this has sulphur in it. So, I have it just in case and to try with my next OB.

I have to tell you that since starting this regime, I haven't had ANY tingles or itches in my genital area AT ALL! Which is different because my period is due in another week and I usually have some type of sensation down there by now. So, I'm crossing my fingers and holding my breathe!

I hope others report on their cocktails because I'm still curious on what works for others.

Hope this helps!

MovingRightAlong (MRA) and OneInFour (OIF), thank you guys sooooo much for your responses. I am so glad that you responded because I get to learn about different treatment options now. You guys are awesome. You're so specific and detailed. Now I have several options to try out for my own body type. Thank you so much.

In response to MRA's question, yes, it seems like my cocktail is working. And, no, I haven't had an OB since my initial one six months ago. I figure I'm quite petite (5'6" and 117lbs.) so I'd better not take too much of anything. That's why I opted for only 500mg of L-Lysine versus 1 gram (1000mg). If things do begin to happen with my body, I will try different options as suggested by you guys. Thanks again.

Okay, people, come on. I want to read some more responses. LOL. :) I want to learn about all the options out there. Keep 'em comin'....PLEASE! :)

Trying to read through what I missed while backpacking, I found that I had never replied to this. When I am stuck at home, I take Olive Leaf Extract, a vegetarian mega-multi, and garlic pills; I eat fresh garlic and have just added fresh ginger (not by themselves, but sprinkled onto food!) I eat well, but too much, and run and work out with weights. I do not do so well with getting a lot of sleep or keeping stress levels down, but I'm working on it.

But I'll tell you what really works for me. I go backpacking for a few weeks. I sleep like crazy (the first two nights I was gone I think I slept 14 hours each--my guess, because I don't carry a watch out there.) I eat only what I'm carrying, of course; I walk every day, explore on trail and off, wearing a 32-lb pack (approximately.) So I lose weight. I have lots of time to ruminate. I carry a spiral notebook and write journal entries, poems, letters, and make lists of what I want or need to do in life, practical matters or otherwise. I sketch. I read good books! (I recommend "A Lady's Life in the Rocky Mountains," published in 1869, by Isabella Bird.) I memorize great, long poems. In other words, I feed my body and my spirit, and I come home healthy and centered. I do not have ob's, not while out there or for quite a while after. Then I sink into the rhythms of Babylon again and start to lose my holistic health. Then I start to have ob's again. Wish I could take this cocktail continuously!

Straight from the movie "Sixteen Candles" ....What's happening hot stuff? lol

Sorry couldn't resist, i'm 6'4 and 185 lbs i work out every other day and sometimes everyday and i've found the Valtrex once a day works wonders, unless i'm feeling something down there then it's one pill every 12 hours.
I get a lot of vitamin C from the beverages i drink and i'm on a high protein diet right now for building muscle which hasn't seemed to cause any problems.

Echinachea if i'm feeling run down since it helps your immune system so much.
Along with a multivitamin like centrum with my main meal.

hey Wennie <wolf whistle>....so what's a nice woman like you doing in a place like this ? lol

i'm just kiddin around
