What is the difference between suppressive treatment and other treatment? I have heard of people taking a suppresive pill daily (for the rest of your life) and pills you take at the onset of symptoms. Thanks for the information. The more I read the more I don't understand......lol :D

You take ONE pill a day to prevent an outbreak from occuring (hopefully) which is called supressive therapy. When you actually have an outbreak you take two pills a day to get rid of the outbreak or help get rid of it, if you start it within 24 hours of symptoms. There's also non prescription, and herbals stuff that people take like L- Lysine and these boards are full of that stuff, just check out some of the other threads, there's a ton of information here.

Homebound,
I guess you left the same frustrated message on all of the threads.
I really don't think that anyone was unconcerned about what you're going through. If there were ever a place where people can relate to being newly-diagnosed with herpes and needing info, it's here.
Sometimes, though, I think that people either don't have an answer or know that the info is covered really well on other threads and figure that maybe you will read on an your question will be answered.
I guarantee that this is not a group that doesn't want to be helpful, but sometimes you have to be a little persistant. Bump it up and say "um... helloooo.... anybody out there?".

Hi Homebound
I take Valtrex daily..which is what is referred to as suppressive therapy. I didnt' get obs before so I can't really tell if its working. I basically started taking it just because I guess...especially when I researched that it greatly reduces the chances of transmission although its still possible. My fiance and I don't use protection and as of yet...but its only been a few weeks...he has not contracted it. I use to get that tingling feeling before I started taking it...but I don't get that anymore.....I really don't get any symptoms at all....I have had the virus for 2 years....so maybe suppressive therapy works...but I suspect I wasn't going to have serious problems with the virus without taking anything. Sorry you felt fustrated about the lack of responses you were receiving...but most times people want answers that only doctors should answers...I notice those threads seem to go untouched. Most people tend to gravitate toward emotional, mental, phsychological type threads.....

Thank you for the responses - I was just frustrated. I appreciate the replies I have received. I am desperate and guess I should have relaid such. Anyway without any symptoms (but tingling) my doctor put me on suppressive therapy and I hear good things about it so I am doing better emotionally! Thank you again!!!!
