Hi. Without a doubt ABA has done the most for my child. For the past year he has received 30 hours a week of one-on-one therapy at home. When we started he had virtually no eye contact and was completely non-verbal. Now his eye-contact is excellent and he is talking in sentences. As far as other interventions, I took him off milk before therapy started and began using DMG a few months later. The DMG seems to have a connection to his attention, because when I tried taking it away we could see a regression. We still have a long way to go, but I am thankful to have gotten this far. I hope this helps.

Without a doubt, DMG and Auditory Integration Therapy as well as Sensory Integration Therapy. But... there are as many different things out there as there are kinds of kids who all react differently from them. I believe in starting with the diets or vitamins since it is the most cost effective, now I'm not saying a total GF/CF diet to the max, although that would be great, but to start off illimanating certian foods and doing the B6/Mag. Just makes sense to start there. Then moving along with what ever is in your area. You kid might be the one to see the most benefits from a therapy that few else benefit from. I like the different Sensory therapys out there. Like horse rideing or Water Therapy, music therapy, brushing ect. I would like to get my son in Wather SI this next year. My son also does not learn best with ABA but just TEACCH approach. Tell us more about your son!

Hi Badin,
Basically, removing all high protein molecule foods that these kids have a hard time digesting fully, like gluten, wheat, casein, whey, lactose, eggs, milk, soy. I have to really encourage you to also avoid all flours that are in regular stores and try to shop at the health food store for all your childs foods except meats, and fruits ( unless of course you can afford the organic meats and fruits as well). TOTALLY avoid preservatives, dyes ( especially red #40, and blue, yellow and orange, artificial flavors, and SUGAR++++ The sugar could be a chronic problem if used more than very sparingly, due the the intestinal yeast overgrowth. I suggest that you start a antifungal if your child has yeast overgrowth, and follow it with lactobacillus or a probiotic for children to replace the good bacteria in the intestine. You could give your child MCT oil. This is a medium chain triglyceride that is good for kids, especially if they need to gain weight. This MCT will kill the yeast by smothering it, if you choose to use a natural remidy. I also suggest that you put your child on a high potency vitamin, Super nu thera is great. My son has been on all these items and they all helped him incredibly. I can't say this enough but this is not a cure for all, but it is a bandaid that will help the child live a better quality of life, and for some children they may be totally cured as others may seem and look like they are cured but if, like in my sons case, they are reintroduced to a regular diet, the foods are like poison and they regress back into the autistic spectrum. My son is currently on the verge of losing his services because they think he is doping great, which he is , but he has set backs when he gets offending foods. I also encourage you to get the extra folic acid and vit B supplements, as well as DMG. These items made a huge difference in all areas of my sons life. This is a diet that has to become a way of life, and slacking off could be devastating. The foods are poison and if you can convince yourself to realize that when you see the negative effects they cause in your childs overall neuro- gastro, and immune system, you have to basically ask yourself is it worth poisoning them, because you may feel bad that the other kids got icecream or a piece of candy. Believe me it is not worht it. I never though I would gain my son from when I first noticed that somethimng was wrong. He never made eye contact, never smiled as a baby, never slept through the night with out waking up screaming, was in his own world, screamed when ever we put him at the table, when ever he had to make any changes, constant temper tantrums, biting, hitting, pintchingect. Overall the allergist dismissed him as being born miserable before we knew he had ASD. I just never gave up and in the midst of it I prayed. Having a child like this has taken a toll on my whole family due to the time consumption and unpredictability of behavior. However, after all thios intervention, I can honestly say THANK GOD, I started this so early, because you would never know he was FULL blown autistic for the first 2 years of his life. He still has episodes if he gets the offendoing foods but they are not a daily part of his life. Thjis diet takes a great deal of determination, and strength. Find as many food as possible that he might like. My son loves the rice crackers with almond butter. He has been on rice milk since about 15 months or so. We don't give him any juice or citric as this is also a big problem due to the lack of ability to digest properly. It is best to start the day with protein, and really focus on protein snacks as well. I wish you the best and hope this helps.

My daughter just turned 3. She has been receiving ABA therapy, as well as Early Intervention services. Since she turned 3, the EI service ended and she is now in a special-ed preschool. We have certainly noticed a difference since the ABA training started 6 months ago. We recently started her on DMG with Folic Acid, and, although we don't want to read into it, seem to notice a difference. We are going to increase the dosage to see if there is a greater response. We also will be introducing Super NuThera soon. In addition, a holistic doctor suggested Cod Liver Oil. We have only tested the Cod Liver Oil topically to see if any reaction, but none so far. There is a ton of info out there, so keep researching, and testing, and asking!

Hi I just read the post about the cod liver oil and I was curious how you were going to get your child to take it. My son's doctor had suggested it to me for my son and I could never get him to take it. If you have any hints or suggestions you could give I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks

I am wondering the same. My child is VERY sensitive to taste and can taste a drop of something he doesn't like in a gallon of something he does and won't drink it. I tried to give him the cod liver oil capsules-punctured them and squirt them in his mouth, but they smelled and tasted so bad that I couldn't do that to him. I also would like to know how you get this stuff into them.

Take Care!!

Sherri.

Hi you all: I am the mother of a 4-year old recovering from autism. She has been GFCF for 1.5 years, and getting the supplements in were a BIG problem. I know this will be hard - it is SWALLOWING PILLS. It took a very long time, my husband sat with her each night and told her that she has to learn to do this so she "wouldn't have to taste the yucky medicine". The cod liver oil is certainly one of the worst. I try each supplement prior giving them to her and one night I poured a big teaspoon of the cod liver oil for myself, drank it in an instance and - NEARLY THREW UP. That did it. I bought cod liver oil in capsule form. We did not make her swallow the pills until weeks after "the couseling" began. She would not do it consistently at first, (and she still had all kids of things mixed into "drinks" and she knew they were in there), but before long, we were golden. She was just three when we did this. Good Luck, Lisa
