View Full Version : Chlamydia and HIV

I've read on some websites that if you have chlamydia, it will be easier for you to catch and give the HIV virus, does that mean you can catch it WITHOUT having sex if you have chlamydia?

I did a urine test yesterday and everything was fine, however I still have burning sensation down there, so my 'dumb' doctor assumed that I have a hidden chlamydia, and said that I will have to live with it forever because it's something between a viral and a bacterial infection.

Is there such thing? I've done a lot of reading and found whatever he said nothing but total BS.

My symptoms are:

a bit of dryness in my throat, I feel like my tonsils are a bit swollen (it's been like this for weeks)
burning sensation and discomfort after urinating.

Following symptoms developed after taking some antibiotics that I was allergic to:

Oral thrush (it has gotten better until I started another antibiotic that I was also allergic to)
Trouble breathing.

I have never been involved in a risky sexual activity except when I recieved a handjob, but doctors have assured that the HIV transmission through such thing is nearly impossible.

I really hate reading about the HIV virus because the more I read about it, the more I think I have it and get stressed out because of it.

Thanks for replying,

I have two questions, now that I have an inflammed urethra, does that mean I can get the HIV virus out of no where? (I am not planning into getting involved into any sexual activities)

my second question is whether you can contract the hiv through a handjob or not, there was no fluid exchange, just direct physical contact with a lot of lube.

I did my last urine test as soon as I woke up as the doctor suggested doing that for the most accurate result, and my symptoms started after rough masturbation and an urge to pee for hours.

Thanks :)

Hi Avron,

You need to speak with your doctor again.

There is know such thing as hidden chlamydia, you either have chlamydia or you don’t.

If you’ve only been tested one time, get tested again. Although initial testing can be very effective, sometimes external factors can affect the results, for example, urinating within 4 hours before the test can affect the accuracy.

Additionally, you should be tested for other STD’s as well; Chlamydia is the most common STD with 3-4 million people each year affected. However other STD’s are extremely common such as Gonorrhea (affecting over 500,000+ each year) and Syphilis which is making a huge come back. Also hepatitis cannot be discounted.

Another point to realize is that some STD’s such as Chlamydia and Gonorrhea are typically localized bacteria’s, meaning that if you perform oral sex the bacteria will be passed to your mouth and no urine test will ever find the bacteria that resides in your mouth.

You need to ensure that you have informed your doctor of the specific type of sexual activity in which you were involved. Additionally, you need to indicate the type of protection used. Don’t worry your doctor has heard them all.

You indicated that you took antibiotics, so I’m presuming your doctor prescribed them in the off chance that you did have Chlamydia or Gonorrhea. You need to talk with your doctor about some of the side effects of the medication prescribed. Since some of the symptoms noted can be side effects of medications.

Lastly it is true that if you are infected by another STD you have a higher likelihood of contracting HIV (or any other STD for that matter.) It is easier for diseases to attack when the body is already weakened by another disease. Again this is not limited to HIV; you are more likely to contract ANY disease when your body is already under attack by a preexisting disease or ailment.
